Whiteline Sway Settings?

After adding Whiteline front and rear sway bars, I'm experiencing a slight bit of oversteer during hard cornering. I have both bars on their softest setting. I'm a HPDE rookie, and don't want to head off track bass akwards at VIR on the 26th. I'm thinking I need to go up one setting on the front to make things more neutral? Any advice / experience with these bars on a high speed road course? I know I can also adjust rebound on the konis and tire pressures, but I'm not sure which place to start. Those two settings I can adjust between sessions, but I probably can't jack the car up to adjust sway bar settings in the paddock.

No experience with these bars but in general if you are getting oversteer, you can either stiffen the front or soften the rear.

Its time to start playing with the settings. Easiest way to fix the understeer, from a tuning point, is to set the front to a harder setting.

Contact Terry Fair on this site. He is a Whiteline dealer and can tell you exactly what to do.

Thanks, I'll give 3 front, 4 rear a try. Just curious, in what type of use would you set either of these bars to the firmest setting? Is that more relevant in autocross?

I like my Whiteline front bar on full STIFF... But I do have a very different spring setup than you. I'd try that first, as you can always dial it back a little as you get more comfortable with the car.

There isn't really an answer for that, suspension tuning boils down to setting the car up to fit the driver. Test and tune the bars and see what works best for your driving style!

We really need a LOT more information to really help out... Under what conditions are you oversteering? Under braking, maintenance throttle, acceleration? What phase(s) of the corner? Tyre type, starting pressures, finishing pressures? Is the oversteer consistent, occasional, or corner-dependent?

In general, if you have oversteer, soften the rear: dampers and/or bar and/or pressures.

Just as a followup- 3 in front and 4 in back are much more confidence inspiring. I can now dial in under / oversteer using my right foot in hard corners. Hopefully that's a help to someone else with the same setup as mine.

Now, I'm dealing with a squeak from the rear sway bar- looks like the diff fluid leaking from the axle vent is getting into the the driver's side bushing. Guess I'm going to have to put in a catch can next... good thing I like working on my car, huh?

Thanks for the suggestions GT350. That turkey baster looks like it will hit the exhaust on a lowered car, no? Also just looks dinky compared to the Bob's...

Turns out I had a stripped bolt on one of the end link bolts- weird; wouldn't tighten up, wouldn't come off. Had to cut it off and hit Lowes. No more squeaks. My body shop installed that sway bar for me- no telling what they did...

Hence why I do all my own work...

If its fucked, I did it. I like it that way. Plus its cheaper....

Also, if you don't mind having the vent in your trunk, you can run a line from the axle to a catch can. Here's how Ford does theirs on the Boss 302S:

I had the same problem so I first installed a small catch can bolted to my diff cover. It didn't work and I stll had oil everywhere. So, I went this route and my problems were over.

Roll Bar Stiffness

I got this from Sam Strano's site. He sells whiteline, but didn't list the stiffness of them. Might not have the data...
Can Whiteline and BMR and others pipe in here? Maybe stuff like this can be posted in a sticky...

Sam, I hope it's ok to publish this from your site.
Comparison vs. Ford OEM:

FRONT:
Strano Performance 35mm hollow: 472, 547, 642 lbs/in
Ford 34mm hollow (2005-2010 GT): 385 lbs/in
Ford 34.6mm hollow (2011+ GT, Brembo, Boss): 436 lbs/in

REAR:
Strano Performance Parts 8419 1" tubular: 162, 185, 225 lbs/in
Ford 20mm Solid (2005-2010 GT): 96 lbs/in
Ford 22mm Solid (2011+ V-6 standard): 147 lbs/in
Ford 24mm Solid (2011+ 5.0, GT500): 193 lbs/in
Ford 25mm Solid (Boss 302): 250 lbs/in
Ford 26mm Solid (Boss 302 Laguna Seca): 275 lbs/in

So...what's the range of the Whiteline and others?

Quick question.

'12 brembo yellows w/ 180lb springs front and rear. 265 35 19 re-11 front and 285 35 19 re-11 rear.

What settings should I start with on the Strano bars? Installing them tonight. Car is a DD.

I was just looking for this info this morning so I could calculate my total rate in the rear. Thanks :thumb2:

Always install new bars at the full soft setting and adjust from there.
