I would say max you could go with is a 275/50 or a 275/40. I dont even think its possible getting 315 to fit a 8 inch rim plus that would be unsafe in my opinion.

thanks...the reason i asked was because i ran a set of 03 cobra wheels with 315's saturday night, and i liked the bite i was getting with the extra tread on the ground...

bite is not all about tread width. A lot of factors go into the bite of a tire. Running a 315 on a 8" wide rim would be foolish and not work nearly as well as a properly sized tire. a 315 tire should be on a 10" rim

a 315 on a 9"

I wouldn't go higher than 275 on a 8in rim for street tires. Idealy the widest tire you would want for bite and safety would be a 265.
If you are looking for some track tires to throw on some stock 17x8's they are streetable too but not recommended.

I was thinking 285 Nitto DRs on my 18x8.5 Bullitts. That's not pushing the envelope too much, you guys think?

yes way too big of a tire IMHO. 285/40 right? spec'd for min 9.5" rim. IMHO a .5" diff you can do w/o too much trouble. 1" is just too mucy, tire will bulge and will not perform as well

yea i double checked them, they were 35 sidewall so my car would probably sit too low in the ass anyway. Im trying to make sure i have traction when i buy my driveshaft without grinding my brakes up for jegs wheels or spending over 2g for bogarts and tires(even tho thats what i really want).

For the track, I am using 275/50's on stock 17x8's.....They are M&H's which run narrow....and they are tall.....

man i wish i could run those^^^but when i bought my car it was already lowered and dont think a 28inch tire would fit.I went with 275/40/17 bfg drag radials instead should get them this friday.

They will fit on a lowered car.....My car is lowered with Roush springs....and they fit fine....

Plus, I have had 325/50/15's under mine with it lowered.......

m&h would be my next tire then, i have had good luck with the bfg drag radials i even think they gave me more traction than the mt drag radials.
