Ok....so there's a fresh batch of Royal Purple in the engine. You still need to drive it to verify that something is wrong. Take it easy on the engine. Be cool with it but go drive the car.

By the way....where in Michigan are you anyway?

That oil looks rather milky to me.....

Looks pretty flimsy to me.

I'm not sure if I'll have a chance to drive it tonight but tomorrow I will for sure. Like I said, the car seemed to run fine the whole way home but those certain times made me worry. It seems like something is loose somewhere, but I don't know if something is loose in the engine, in the heads, in the transmission, I'm not sure. It would be utterly AWESOME if it was something as simple as the clutch or flywheel.

I'm actually in central Ohio. About 20 minutes from National Trails

I'm thinking that if it needs to be looked at you're going to Norwalk and CRT Performance to see my friends Jeff and Tammy Chambers.

Drive it and let me know how it is doing. If everything is ok then get a few miles on it this weekend and change the oil again. Let's take it one day at a time for right now.

I sent him an email yesterday regarding my tuning, waiting on a response.

Sounds good. What kind of tell-tale signs should I look for in case I need to shut the car off? Also, should I do any type of datalogging, or will that even get any useful info with my issue?

You should try and get a video of your drive. Ask a buddy to help you.

I'll see what I can do. Its gonna be tough because it doesn't always do it

If the noise isn't constant, I can guarantee it's not a rod knocking.

That is a nice relief LOL. If it is not constant, could it be anything with the motor? The best way I can describe the noise is it sounds like something came loose and now makes noise/vibrates every now and then and it comes by my feet. This happened ONCE a few days ago on the highway and didn't hear it again until today.

That sounds very close to how I described what turned out to be my exhaust hanger banging off the transmission crossmember bolthead. I thought I had something loose or a bolt was rattling around the engine.

If it's as easy as that I'm buying a 6-pack for everyone that responded on here  haha

I'll throw it up on a lift tomorrow and take a look again. Nothing seemed loose on the exhaust when I was looking it over today.

Mine wasnt loose either. The hanger had been welded on the exhaust pipe at an angle that put it very close to that bolthead. Right RPM it would vibrate enough to hit that bolthead and make a hell of a racket.

I ain't trying to get your hopes up, just saying things don't always turn out to be what they sound like.

I think you better throw in some nachos too. Peppers on the side.

You might be forgetting about those pesky little metal shavings in your oil. :thumb2:

I know, can't say anything about that until I change the oil again. If there still is metal shavings, then there's a problem, but I'm hoping what was in there was from break-in. Should I put a magnet on the bottom of the oil pan to see if a lot more accumulates?

On the first page is a pic of the drain plug. The tip was caked in metal shavings and there were still some on the edge of the drain hole after the oil drained out. Is that an abnormal amount of metal?

Not trying to speak for SD as that would be arrogantly presumptuous, but the oil filter media is a far better indicator of abnormal or excessive foreign particles trapped in the oil than merely looking at the oil. Often times aeration can be mistaken for metal particles.

After the first 20 minutes of engine operation I was instructed to change the engine oil & filter. I have a filter cutter and plan on cutting the filter open to inspect the media for abnormal metal particles. Keep in mind, the filter is there to catch foreign particles trapped in the oil so some debris is normal.

Also, was the block new or used? I noticed on my new block I had to really go to town with a deburring tool. There was a LOT of burrs and "hanging" metal all over that block. I would have been surprised if I didn't find metal in my oil on the startup oil change.

Splitting open the filter is a good idea, as a lot of the metal in the oil is probably aluminum which a magnet wouldn't pick up.

As far as I know I believe SD used a new block. It sure did look new and I don't see why he wouldn't have used a new block.

I'll have to call up my buddy at Midas and see if he still has the oil filter but I doubt it.

Can running the same break in oil for 400 miles cause damage to the internals or would it cause things not to seat properly? I'm not sure if MD changed the break in oil but its got fresh Royal Purple in it now
