Where does extra sound insulation make the most difference?

Update: Made a big difference in noise from the rear axle. :nixon:

    Driveshaft balancing the Ford way?

Any idea what side effect or NVH a too big pinion angle has? I measured the angle at the transmission flange which was in spec, but I was not able to measure the pinion angle. My home build solution pushed the center bearing up 5 mm. I know it is a CV joint but I guess it has some optimum also?

Does anybody made a DIY rear undertray/diffuser ?

It's the ezcarlift.com I bought it when I repaired my differential. All lift have pros and cons. Nice is I can support the engine by putting a 2x4 below it and lower the lift by millimeters. I really like it.

Coating damaged by spring compressor - how to repair it?

Plastidip is a good idea. I asked because not many Mercedes guys do this kind of work, so you don't get answers fast. Spring breaks are always the same, rust weakens the steel and a speed bump finishes it. I additionally used some wax spray on it. I now use the McPherson compressor and secure...

Does anybody made a DIY rear undertray/diffuser ?

I made one from ABS and lowered the part at the radiator support on my 07. The height difference from front to the k-member is now only one inch. Next time I order some ABS sheets I will probably change the OEM part also to make it flat.

Coating damaged by spring compressor - how to repair it?

Heat didn't work, I used dissolved ABS (I had some left from my undertray work). I hope that the acetone will dissolve the coating a bit.

Coating damaged by spring compressor - how to repair it?

Yes it is through the coating and I can see the metal. Re-heating with a heat gun can be an option. It is a Mercedes spring and they have crazy preload. I hate using this compressors and the springs are prone to break anyway. I must compress 3 loops until the wire touches, whole spring has only...

Coating damaged by spring compressor - how to repair it?

Hello I damaged the spring coating with the spring compressor, is there a repair method that I can do now? And, it looks like there is no way not to damage the coating so the repair must be done with the installed spring. Thanks

How to clean fuel level sender boards

Problem with the cables/connectors? Or the stepper motor of the cluster? I once had a bad cable to my radio (other car, drop out at potholes) which was impossible to find, only a new cable solved it.

How to clean fuel level sender boards

Did you open the SJB? I had water issue and found a lot of corrosion on the SJB board (I got brake light problems) after cleaning it was gone.

Where does extra sound insulation make the most difference?

It was sealed with some 1'' thick very hard sealer, looked like urethan. Left it inside, but sprayed underneath with fluid film, fingers crossed..... no test drive so far, fuel is 8$/gal now, driving around for fun is no fun anymore, thanks to the new carbon tax.

Where does extra sound insulation make the most difference?

Do you had to remove the complete weather plastic shield to get to the door?

Where does extra sound insulation make the most difference?

Will do. I have seen them, they are glued (?) to the bottom, so just pull them up? The condensed water can be a problem, I agree, that's why some say not to use alubutyl on the outside panels, instead use this bitumen/plastic stuff which is glued with heat, OEM style. This area is a huge open...

Where does extra sound insulation make the most difference?

Quick tip: I just wanted to fill up the space between the rear wheel well and the b-pillar with polyester wool through the seat belt retractor hole and it looks like it is large enough to place some alubutyl stripes on the quarter panel inside. And you need around 15+ liters of polyester wool...

Does anybody made a DIY rear undertray/diffuser ?

No mileage compare so far, but I noticed a much smoother ride on the Autobahn with the front undertray. How do these splitter strut rods work? Are they stable in all directions or do they have a weak point? Are they adjustable in length?

Does anybody made a DIY rear undertray/diffuser ?

Thanks, that was helpful. I made an almost flat front undertray, it also lowered the wind noise.

    Cowl Weatherstrip

When I remember correctly. there is no separate weatherstrip, it is a rubber edge molded in the plastic part. But the price is insane.

Do you guys have thoughts about that, except very expensive: https://www.fordgt500.com/threads/new-underbody-strakes-aero-from-steeda-gt500-s550-compatible.208233/

Which one to choose, Coilovers or struts?

Sorry I'm German, I try my best in English ;) If your budget allows to buy a fully adjustable coil-over, this would be the best way to build a cornering car. I have combined compression/rebound adjustment and wish to have it independent.

Does anybody made a DIY rear undertray/diffuser ?

I haven't found the dimension of the GT350 part. The needed size is roughly 80x80 cm. The GT350 part is bolted to the bumper on one side and to a bracket to the underbody between the sway bar and the differential. On our cars we must attach a bracket to the spare tire panel. I was not able to...

Does anybody made a DIY rear undertray/diffuser ?

Hello The GT350 has a undertray plate from the axle to the bumper and covers the carbon canister backpack. I think it would be a nice aerodynamic optimization for the S197, too. Cheers GT350 with aftermarket strakes:

Which one to choose, Coilovers or struts?

These color codes on the OEM springs address the car weight and the front/rear weight distribution with the different variants, with coil overs you can do it left/right too.

    Driveshaft balancing the Ford way?

Exactly, so far very worth the work. An other mod I wished I did much earlier, together with the noise insulation and the aerodynamic stuff.

Which one to choose, Coilovers or struts?

Advantage of a coil over is that you can adjust the height according to the weight distribution. In general, I would start with new sway bars first.
