That is why I imagine it would be better then just a GT500 pump with billet gears .... But then again it is a FRPP piece so the price is a bit high.

I'm almost positive TSS makes the gears for the new Cobra Jets. Seems like I remember Craig from TSS saying that on Yellowbullet.

My buddy just got his pump in and I met him here in town to see it it is what it the cheap pump has a solid thick metal back plate. It is probably 10 * stronger than a regular pump looks great mine is on order will be here tomorrow

Lmfao I was driving and using speech to text. I just saw the 67 $ pump at motor sports dealer in houston. Its legit and has a much stronger back plate. I have mine ordered and coming in tomorrow.

I should have taken a picture but was in a hurry. It wasnt special looking but definitely beefed up.

side by side, 2013 pump on the left...with the covers removed you can see the billet milling on the 2013 VS the pre-2013 casting

perhaps someone has already answered this question and I just overlooked it...

is there any reason this pump won't support VCT on a 4.6L 3V?

I'm very curious if it is in fact the pump getting twisted up that's breaking gears.

I figure if ford trusts these oil pumps on 650+hp factory cars, they must have something figured out.

FRPP also makes a $700 oil pump with billet gears for the cobra jet, so they also see the need for billet gears as well at a certain level.

Heres a thought. Instead of buying this 2013 pump soley for the back plate. Keep whole pump and just transfer over the 3v or older gt500 pressure spring screw. And of course billet gears if you have them. That way you can use the new pump housing with billet plate.

That's exactly what I ended up doing, just transferred my TSS gears over to this pump and housing, I kept the 2013 spring as well, should be the same as the pre-2013 pumps.

Did you compare the springs for the gt500 untis? From what I saw its higher pressure for 13. Not that you have to worry about oil pressure in the turbo anymore. But if I had to do it over again from the get go I would be using a 3v spring. All three of these pumps are the same high volume as the gear width and size is the same. I'ts just that they have different pressure settings via the spring. IIRC the 3v is 70psi, older gt500 is 80 psi and 13 is 90psi. Of course the springs arent an exact number and based on load and rpm you can easily see mopre pressure before the srping can relieve and bring it back down.

It's been stated the only difference on the gt500 pumps is the back plate, springs and internals are all the same....ill know in a few days when I crank it up.

So is anyone going to just use a 13 pump instead of going with TSS gears. I am confused on the concensus here. For a budjet minded build, a person could get a 13 pump and just swap over the springs? How hard is it to swap springs.
