Its gonna be fun and sound great no doubt! It will really only become impractical if you decide to build the motor. Which trust me, you'll start daydreaming about. But thats a whole nother can of worms.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for running a Coyote motor in a track car. Those are my plans. But the stock Coyote motors are not exactly known to be an anvil and they do tend to run on the hot side. It’s not just a matter of chucking a stock Coyote motor in the car, turning it up to 11 (exhaust, tune, etc) and pounding its guts out. I wouldn’t trust a stock Coyote motor in a track car over the long run and at a minimum they need a BIG radiator and oil cooler.

My Coyote plans are to build a Coyote with good rods/pistons/balanced stock crank/ARP everything/etc, big exhaust and a butload of cooling. Still not a “cheap” option. Certainly not any less expensive than throwing a blower at a 3v.

Thanks...about $4500 for all components including SC and other components added...

New coyote $6200...PCM,control pack, alternator, etc, etc...probably another $2500-$3000...

Intake/headers/exhaust/tune...another $1500

New coyote...$10K used Coyote probably around $7000k after install: http://www.s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95688

Just giving you a hard time!

As I mentioned earlier, I don't understand spending $4500+ (don't kid yourself into thinking you won't have massive scope creep on this project), when you plan on ditching the car for a Coyote next year anyway.

$4500 buys a lot of tires/brakes/gas and entry fees!

Dude is going to have a stout track car, no doubt. And I'd really like to see what his car would run for personal reasons, since the overall setup is similar to mine, but cranked up a couple notches.

I understand Okie's point, though. What I quoted only drives it home.

Boost is a measure of restriction.

You have good flowing components so your boost will be lower with the same pulley as say a stock car.

There's a reason I'll be running 55+ psi of boost on my cummins, they have poor flowing heads so the boost is needed to overcome it.

I was looking at that kit as well, thanks for saving me the money I wanted it too.

No stock engine is ready for the track. that being said. the Coyote is a great engine for the track. Every engine needs those modifications to survive at the track. get a Boss/ Tiger racing hood, Saleen grill and an oil cooler. That is what I did. Did Big Willow on a 103 day. No overheating. ran at freeway temps

Thanks for all the posts in this thread...there is a wealth of information and advice here. I have decided to move forward with a used procharger unit from a member, Viperrmk. I just received everything and it was as advertised...thank you Ryan!

This is this year's "experiment". You will probably see all these components for sale at the end of the year when I move to a Coyote/Boss platform (please, no comments about saving my money...I'm too dumb and stubborn for that...:hammer:). This will be a cautious (yeh, right) approach on Supercharging for Road Racing. Most of the horror stories seem to be based on higher than 10 boost levels, causing excessive IATs, thereby incurring excessive heat throughout the system.

How about these goals:
  1. Run a Centri System, which, by most claims, will be more efficient in terms of heat soak due to placement.
  2. Run 8-10 boost max - good for ~100 at the wheel. This is controlled my pulley size. However, a wastegate may be considered.
  3. D-1SC unit vs P-1sc, which I understand makes more slightly boost at lower RPM, thereby reducing heat.
  4. 3-Core - A2A intercooler
  5. Boxing of intercooler and radiator for concentrated airflow
  6. Splitter and additional custom belly pan for controlled airflow
  7. Tiger Racing Super Louver hood for air extraction...I love this Carbon Fiber hood!!
I have:

D-1SC head unit
3.70 pulley - this will change
Stage II piping
3-core air-to-air inter cooler
Big Red Enclosed BOV
60# injectors
DiabloSport MAFia
Gatorback belt
DiabloSport Predator
GT500 Duel Fuel pumps

If anyone has these, I need Procharger pieces:

MF007A-007 / FAN SHROUD - 05 MUSTANG-BAGGED
AIFP1A-023 / DEGAS TANK - 07 MUSTANG-BLACK
Pulleys...4.13/4.00 for 8-rib

My 07 Mustang GT 4.6L currently has:

Tiger CF Hood
FRPP CAI
Steeda Inlet
Steeda UDP
FRPP Intake
CMDP,
Comp SPR 127500
Comp Phaser Limiters
Pypes Headers/X-off road
Moroso 7 qt Road Racing pan
SPAL 2360 CFM hi-perf fan
Tune 372hp/367tq N/A
I will be adding an oil cooler…haven’t chosen one yet.

Also, any other concerns and/or recommendations would be appreciated...other than "Don't do it!!"

Of all the things you have listed. None will do more for you than the hood. good luck.

get a Boss/ Tiger racing hood
Remember, I'm the guy that coordinated the Tiger Racing group buy for the forum last year with Paul Brown...RIP.

Ran the hood last year...it was a huge difference, especially at higher speeds. My front end used to oscillate, up and down over MPH. Now it stay planted with downforce...also, those vent will help the cooling.

I'll be looking forward to you buying me a cold one with all that cash that I saved for you...

Fredo to Michael (GodFather Part II)

Like I said in a prior post, this kit will be for sale again at the end of the year. It's a great system for Drag Racing...:asshat:
Also, I own a Motorsport company with my brothers...I can get almost anything at a discount/wholesale. So, like my wife says..."Honey, look at all the money I saved by buying this on sale!"

I was thinking about all this "to get blown or not to get blown" nonsense the other day and came up with my dream road racing motor. A Trinity 5.8 longblock with the FR500C intake. Mmm.... :boobies: Just to be different of course.

Well if we are coming up with dream combos then I would rather have a 5.8 short block and find a way to adapt it to accept a set of Coyote heads and Boss intake.

Getting the FR500 intake to match up with a GT500 motor is no easy task.:thumb2:

It was made for those heads. From rehagen racing's description:

You are buying a brand new Ford Racing FR500C intake manifold. This manifold will allow the engine builder to fit FORD GT or Shelby GT500 4-valve heads on a 4.6L or 5.0L

It also says:
but it WILL NOT FIT 5.4L engines.
.

I wonder why this is. If it fits the heads why wouldn't it fit the block. That doesn't make any sense.

You may need to go back to the stock crank pulley. Not sure the procharger will work with udp.

It's because the longer stroke of the 5.4 give the engine a taller deck height. This make the engine wide and moves the intake ports further away necessitating a different manifold. I'm not sure, but maybe adapter plates could be used?

I searched, Reichard Racing used to make them but aren't in business anymore.

The intake choices na 5.4 seem to be limited to a couple:
- stock navigator truck intake
- Sullivan racing
- Boss 290 Intake Manifold, Ford 5.4 DOHC Modular Australian http://r.ebay.com/DpQfEz

That boss intake on an 11:1 CR trinity would be sweet...

Ahh it makes sense now. Guess we'll have to wait for a Boss 351 from ford after all...
