I had my neon vented, and I keep seeing people run cans on these cars, why? They suck, and you still get oil in the intake.

My guess would be cleaner. No risk of oil vapor condensing on the exterior of the engine. I run a can. Maybe I should switch to a breather? I had a breather on my Galaxie.....and it always left a little residue on the valve cover.

I run a filtered catch can that's vented. Best of both worlds IMO. The catch can cuts down on oil in the bay, but since it's vented it doesn't go back to the intake.

I ran breathers but the oil smell got annoying. I'm running a catch can now and when I pulled the intake a couple months ago it was dry.

The motors are designed to have a vacuum pull on them. Using a can allows this to happen as designed. It's also much cleaner and doesn't smell.

I even kept vacuum on my motor with a blow through setup. Ran great and stayed clean.

I'm in the group that wonders why you would want to revert to engine venting design from over 40 years ago. Things are so much better now.

Same here. Over 1500 miles on breathers and 5 passes at the race track. Not a drop of oil spilled nor any smell of oil in the cabin.

I don't know why some people have issues and others don't.

My 2 cents. Breathers are simple, easy, cheap and they are there is zero chance of getting oil in the intake with them. I as well have never had this oil smell or this massive oil mess under hood to clean up that guys speak of. All I do is clean the breathers with some hot water and dawn dish soap every once in awhile. It works for me and I like it. The next guy might not.

Another thing I liked about the breathers is eliminating some lines in the engine bay.

Not to mention its also half the cost and frees up some cluster in the bay.

I've had breathers on the Mustang and the smell is horrible. I use my car for commuting when it's not raining and my commute involves a fair amount of stop and go so maybe that has something to do with it?

Do what works for you. I wonder why the op started this thread?

This is true. I've been working with solvent and hydraulic type petrol chemicals for the last 25+ years at work. Add to that the years I spent on the farm operating and maintaining all kinds of old machinery and I've become very sensitive to their presence.

According to my wife I'm also blessed with a crazy sensitive sense of smell and taste. I can smell things like mildew from a good distance. I even smell cigarette smoke from other cars while driving at highway speeds with the windows up. Crazy.

I've been on the fence to try breathers myself. Seems fairly cheap to try and gives it a little old school look under the hood. Can anyone recommend one to replace the oil cap in a blue element? Seems to be the quality of the product is the key to "no smell and no leaks".
