Very interesting review. I know the GT put on some weight, however, I didn't know a premium came in at 3800 pds.

A Chevy fanboy sent this to me this morning at work. I told him that I was surprised at how much those guys liked the Camaro, considering that neither one had a mullet.

Really doesnt help that it was a fully loaded car. I really dont get why Ford wont put some legit tires on these cars. Even if you just did 275's all the way around for Pzeros it could of made up some time on the track. The 1LE is much more of a track ready package but overall Fords fault and they need to do a better job.

Don't worry . someone else will out the cars to a test and have a completely different outcome. Always play this game with gm

Are you F'n kidding me? The Mustang was only 1.5sec slower with those junk ass tires and a soft suspension? If the Mustang had only the Camaro's tires it would have been faster. And if the Mustang had some springs/dampers (which pretty much every track guy will do) even more so.

That wasn't a car test, that was a tire test. I wish the car mags would do what the bike mags have been doing for 15yrs now. PUT THEM ON THE SAME RUBBER!!!!!!

My only grip is the price as tested was $46K??? They must have ordered it with every possible option, which would make it heavier, of course. But overall it seemed like a fair review. I agree it would be different with different tires. But they tested them as delivered so....

Yeah, that price is just D-U-M-B stupid. Our PP Recaro GT was $32K

Camaro is on 20x10 and 20x11's with some pretty stout tires. The mustang didnt have a chance on the donuts it comes on.

Why call it a performance pack, if you're not going to even put some good meats on?

Why call it a performance pack, if you're not going to even put some good meats on?

Because the pack also comes with a Torsen and 15" 6 piston brakes. That is performance.

And the PP suspension/ tires are more focused than the GT, not much though.

They are just not that near track day only madness that comes on the Camaro.

It's all down to the rubber. A rubber gap like that is worth about 2.5-3sec/60sec of lap time.

Ok. Well then it's all performance except for tires? Lol. Make a complete package, not almost a performance pack:)

Most people would be crying bloody murder if Ford sold a PP car with those tires. You are LUCKY to get 10K miles out of them, they are dangerous if it's under 50deg out and flat out murderous in the wet. They are a bit pricey too.

I have thousands of laps in at the track and drive like a complete moron on public roads and I wouldn't want those Camaro tires. Too many downsides for a street car. And still not enough tire for the track.

The best thing Chevy did for that car was that wheel and tire package and they know it. And I see why Ford may have been a little conservative on their performance pack. We have to remember the S550 is brand new with no Z28 type model to rob performance parts from yet like the 1LE has. Ford wasn't going to launch the GT PP with performance parts that are in the works for an upcoming SVT/GT350 car that hasn't been released yet. The S550 will only get better from here. And I can tell you right now one of the best handling mods I did was go to 18x10 square setup with 285's. The turn in and steering response with that tire up front was awesome. You do something similar on that S550 I bet it bests that 1LE even still with the softer suspension. Same for the braking. IMO But the point is yes Chevy made those changes and that's why the Camaro won. But those changes were post Z28.
