Did you have the rod mag'd and dye pen'd after any of the other failures? You could have damaged the rod previously and not known it. Where the rod broke is interesting and not were it should have broke under a compressive load. For the strength of that rod, the wirst pin and/or wirst area of the piston should have failed first if my opinion.

Or it is related to the fact that your motor is a stroker and the increased rod angle on the power stroke combined with the higher compression killed the rod.

No I did not, anything is possible I guess. As for where it broke, I'm not sure. The rod is in pieces in my oil pan along with the pieces of piston.

Who does a stock block for anything north of 1k rwhp?

3v guys, till we hit 1200-1500 there's no fear in the block... What is that stock 5.0 block good for?

Oh wait it's only 750... lol

Just messing with ya, haha

Sure, above 1000rwhp it gets pretty hard yo keep any of them together.

I would use a stock 1L or 3L 4.6 block to attempt that number. I'd also use the stock crank. But I don't think like others.

I'd also think about a 5.8 GT500 block. It needs no additional machining because the bore is nickasil. Just make sure the pistons are the right size because there isn't any honing to size.

Unfortunately Billy won't bite on trying the 5.8 out for us. He's going with the proven aluminum 3v block.

You are finding every weak link in the entire drivetrain at that number.

People throw hp numbers around like it's just a number but as you know the reality is it gets exponentially harder to make higher amounts of power and have everything work, let alone make it driveable for the street. It's not as easy as saying "I'm going to turn it up to 11".

That's true and I have learned it the only way I know, trial and error,

For me it's not to beat a "5.0", I joke about it but that's not it, I just really like to go fast! Its my vise and that's that.

You know the feeling, it's called, "Icantgofastenoughitis", and yes you can feel free to quote that phrase. Lol

When you start to deal with 750+rwhp the Yote doesn't hold any kind of advantage over the 3v. Boost is the great equalizer.

In all actuality it's less expensive/easier to make 700+rwhp with the 3v.

Up at 1000rwhp it's far, far less expensive to make the power with a 3v than a Yote.

A turbo or two on the 5.0 and your good for 750-800 on the stock block and RA. A ton of folks have done it. You cant do that to a 3v.

I admire your persistence and the challenge and rewards of doing it all yourself. I also understand the thrill of out running cars that should be or appear to be faster. But if its really just about going fast why not buy a tube frame car, 460+ ci carbed motor, powerglide and run 9's all day long?

Because it is about doing it in this car. Hell , I've even thought about a 500 Cid BB in this car.

So the final answer is a 3L 4.6 block with a stock stroke? Many have made big power with this combo. You are definitely pushing the envelope though.

Any chance of getting this on a dyno? Maybe fly Manuel in for the final tune and dyno day?

I gotta tell you, the more I read the more I'm tempted to go with another forced induction system on my car.

You are still on the 8.8 rear end right? If so has a 9" entered your thoughts?

I am 99% going to just build it stock stroke. I am on the fence on Flattops or 6cc dish. I am also uncertain of what rod I'm using.

I could get it on a dyno with Manuel present, but I feel the way we do it via data logs is safer. The only reason I see to get on a dyno now is for some sort of power bragging rights.

Yes 8.8 is holding strong leaving at 2500 on the foot brake. Best 60' to date is 1.29 last time out when the motor broke. You can come up with your own thoughts on it with the trans brake and what it would do to the rear end and 60'.

To be honest, I've been to busy at work to even put any real thought into it this week. I have not even sent the final teardown pics to Manuel for review buy " The Motor Professional".
