I get this all the time. I've had people call me all sorts of names when I won't come down on the price of something I have advertised as FIRM.
In your case it's just because you're a prick.

Honestly, although we all seem to agree on "Mustangs" here, I'm bettin someone would be cussing me for something I've done to my car, and I've certainly cussed the previous owners of a few that I've bought second hand too, lol. I'm betting someone would love my shaker hood scoop, and tinted head-lights that my car has from the previous owner, but I can't stand either one, and we won't even mention that goofy as shit wing on the back, but regardless, someone spent good money for this stuff, lol. Even certain choices of power adder, or header type or brand could easily rub me the wrong way, lol!I think most of the issue is pride. Knowing that someone is driving your car off with a grin realizing they got an absolute steal of a deal. Witnessing that moment will absolutely suck.
Bruce,FWIW I sold my car yesterday.
I asked a very reasonable price and sold it for my reasonable but firm price.
What really kills me are the Pawn Stars fans who would offer less and who obviously didn't recognize a good deal, then would get upset that I would say "good day" and good luck and not talk to them further.
Good luck with selling the car, I feel lucky that I was able to sell to someone who appreciated what had been done and who realized that paying market value for a forged/nicely modified motor, TR6060 trans, etc. was an awesome deal.
BTW I only asked book price for a stock car and it still took quite awhile to sell. I did keep the advertising to a select few enthusiast sites. I didn't want to deal with the general craigs list public.
All I know is that I'm not giving my car away, but I do understand the reality of what i've spent and what it's worth retail, and it doesn't make me mad or anything. I know if it does sell I won't get what I've got in it. Nowhere even close. I think most of the issue is pride. Knowing that someone is driving your car off with a grin realizing they got an absolute steal of a deal. Witnessing that moment will absolutely suck. Hell.....part of me says just keep it, but the other part says move on. Part of me wants it, the other part is tired of maintaining and cleaning two hot rods. This is all a pretty tough decision. Luckily I have till October until my Demon comes in to make a firm decision.

I have come to this bridge several times. I hear all of the old timers I know talking about how they wish they had this car or that car from there teens or 20's. So I just think about that and keep what I have. There is always going to be new things that are nicer, faster, etc. I feel you have to make the decision of what you will be happy with and enjoy it. Good luck with whatever decision you make.
TRUTH! I used to be a prick, for sure. I've gone through a metamorphosis recently (and still am). I'm pretty Zen about most things in life now. And I'm looking to be even more so in the future. Life is too short to be upset at everything all the time.
Interesting read. I am at a fork in my ownership road that I just can't seem to get passed. I have a bunch of parts sitting on the shelves in my garage just waiting to be put on the car, but for some reason I have this thought in my mind that I shouldn't do it. Some parts are easily taken back off and sold, others are not. All said, more than $2k wrapped up on the shelves because I can't decide if it's staying.
What I have found is that modifying the car gets me to keep it longer. The only problem is, by the time I am done trying to modify it enough to keep it longer, I will have a ton of unrecoverable funds in it.
That said, the other side of the coin is... my car's replacement will be stupid expensive. So instead of absorbing that cost, adding more parts (even significantly priced ones) seems to make sense. But, flipping again, then the pool of buyers for the car goes down. I can't seem to get passed it. Possible regret has me keeping the car the most at the moment.

Well buddy I read you and even in my case and me seriously looking into selling my Mustang it's still very much up in the air.Interesting read. True ........I'd say keep the car until you don't want a replacement when it goes away. Then you will be done.
Exactly .........Never selling my Mustang, also crazy to dump a bunch of money into your car then sell it for a HUGE loss.
Maybe the worst business move on the planet. I knew when I first bought my car I wouldn't ever sell it.
I will do whatever I have to so I can keep it alive and pass it down.
I can't even THINK of selling it, just doesn't make sense at all.
Well a lot of us when we were much-much youinger were a heck of a lot wilder I think. That's good to hear, I've known you for over fifteen years and yeah, you did have a LOT of piss and vinegar back in the Ducati days. I too have mellowed a bunch.
Alan,Those cars look so awesome.
Mopar took an aging body style and added the wheel flares with wider tires and it looks much better.
Out of my price range but is is great to see the big 3 making brute power these days.
When I came into driver's license age the best the big 3 could do was a 165 hp Corvette. Those were truly the dark days of the automotive industry.
Then there was light at the end of the tunnel in 1983.....a 15 second Mustang GT.
Puny by today's standards, but quick compared to all the 16-17 second wheezers from the previous several years.
RM,After lightly modifying several vehicles and eventually selling them(ouch). I decided when I bought this mustang, it is NEVER going to be sold by me. The platform is adaptable enough that if my tastes in fun/racing change, I could change the car to go with me.

RM,
In my case I have now had my Mustang since taking delivery in 2008.
So 9 years later and I'm going to make a change from it if I can pull it off.
I have totally enjoyed mine all these years and truthfully if I ended up keeping it I would be A-OK with that.
At my age this next one might very well be my last.
That's not me being negative just saying it could be.
Terry
I totally understand in your scenario, and I agree with it. I am 28, so my outlook is different from yours..... although you never now when your card is to be punched. That's just life. My 81 year old grandfather could easily outlive me, his father (my great grandfather) lived to 103, and grandpa was just in my office asking when we were going to pull that engine in the $100 F150 I bought. He has spunk and evanescence of life like a 40 year old. Love him.
Terry, best luck on your plans. I hope you get a wide-body Hellcat to be straight up with you. I think you would really enjoy it.
Rm
Terry - viatical settlement on the life insurance, buy the widebody, keep the bullit
PROFIT
I will do whatever I have to so I can keep it alive and pass it down.
I can't even THINK of selling it, just doesn't make sense at all.
RM,
Hey buddy if I was anywhere at all in my earlier years and I don't even mean in the 20's this would be an instant decision on this end.
Bullitt Mustang would be History and the order would be placed for the Widebody.
What I have not said is if I was still working and have years and years and years to work this would simply be a change of cars.
But in my case I am married and I am older even though my current health thank-goodness is "Excellent".
Just had a full physical a week ago.
