Application: NA 4.6 3v stock

My ATI Damper(#918042- undersized) hub is 9mm thicker than the stock damper hub. Assuming is is the correct damper (box says so) I would feel more comfortable with a longer bolt in there. ARP gave me the impression that some aftermarket dampers are thicker and come with longer bolts- but I am n my own to guess who they are.

Both the stock and ARP bolt have 45mm of thread. Coyote bolt is waaaay to long.

As a side note- I will be calling ATI on Monday to confirm the right part was in the box. Ribs line up like the stock one. Although it is a hard to press on.

Thanks

You're crazier than I am!! I used a stock bolt. Did not compare hubs.

Yes, you will need to use a longer Bolt... I used an ARP Bolt. I'll look tomorrow and find out what size I used. I believe I have some extras..

Thank you for the effort. I tried calling ARP and they said they did not make a longer HB bolt(except for the Coyote one). They had another longer bolt, but it was not of the correct hardness. Hopefully you might have a some NOS from when they did make them.

There is a longer one from ARP. I don't have the part number but it is for a Mini Cooper.

I owe you a beer! ARP 206-1001
Mini 1.6L, M12 x 1.5, 19mm, 2.805˝ UHL

One inch longer than stock. That should do just fine.

Awesome info. I cant thank you enough.

I asked ARP about those bolts and they told me those bolts did not have the same hardness as the Damper bolt, and recommended not to use them as a Damper bolt. That being said- the torque spec is close to the Damper bolt (98 vs 100), so it would seem to be an alternative if you only need 5mm more thread than stock.

I talked to ATI this morning and confirmed I have the right underdrive damper and that the hub is thicker than stock (300 thousands). I then called ARP and asked about the strength of the Mini Cam Sprocket bolt. They confirmed it is the same as the ARP 4.6l Damper bolt (200,000 ). There is plenty of thread in the stock crankshaft to use the extra length (About 15 mm into the crank to reach the threads and 50mm total depth of crank hole- so ~35mm of threads).

So I am going with the Mini bolt and will let you know if I run into any issues.

^^I've been running that Mini Cooper cam bolt to hold my ATI balancer on for years now while spinning my Procharger F1A with no issues. I wouldn't be too concerned about it, FWIW.

When the small block Chevy debuted it didn't have a balancer bolt at all, the press fit was considered sufficient. There is little to no thrust load on a crank dampener, you could hold it with a grade 5 bolt and loc-tite and it would never fail.

Turns out the above listing on the AARP webpage is incorrect. It is 2.08" UHL (52.84mm). This is versus the stock bolt with 45mm threads. Still a good choice if you did not lose any threads pulling in your Damper. If you did, the ARP 664-1007 (60mm long) might be the solution. Not the same hardness as a true Damper bolt- but ,<insert buyer beware disclaimer here>, should work fine.

See image attached below,

ARP 206-1001, ARP 664-1006 and OEM.

I'm currently using the ARP 664 -1006 but I think the ARP 206-1001 is a better alternative.

What's wrong with the stock bolt again?

Its too short for the innovators west damper, too few thread engaged. I have the IW.

The OP said the same thing for his ATI (which he just posted above)
