The problem with tests like this is the difference in tuning.
Was the tuner pushing as close to MBT with the 100 octane as he did with the E85?
Nobody knows.

In theory E85 should make a little more power because the BSFC is higher and its increasing compression a little bit and because its volatility should cool the intake charge as well. But its difficult to know if that is what is giving you these results or if it is just from better tuning.

My problem with E85 is the inconsistency of it.
People say it has an equivelant octane rating of over 100, but thats the best case scenario of being 85% ethanol. Its usually has less ethanol mixed in and sometimes is offering at or below the octane of normal pump gas (93).

You can't expect someone to come on a forum a list every aspect of the tests and tunes, Nobody would read the compete post, and they would still ask the same questions

I had also read somewhere that guys were adding a lubricant to thier gas tanks/E85 while running the corn since there is more ethanol vs gasoline. Not sure if that is really needed or not either ? ?? I have never used any.

Damn impressive results.

I wish corn fuel was more available around here.

No. There was a vendor claiming it had to be done. He was selling snake oil and was trying to scare people into buying it.

There is a sheetz in Robinson and one in West Mifflin, both have had E85 for awhile. I think there is also going to be a new one out near the Zoo. None may be the most convenient, but I can at least get to any one of them within 30 minutes from my area.

FYI Valero is now the largest ethanol distiller in the US. They made a statement last year that all new "Corner Store" gas stations would carry E85.

Last time I checked they had 10 plants. All aquired from Verasun.

all of the e85 we have been getting from our local stations have all been testing in at 86-87% ethanol......

There are quite a few stations in my city, I just don't know if it's a worthwhile endeavor, I don't want my gas mileage to suck more than it already does.

Wish they would start selling summer blend around here already. Still seeing 75% ethanol here right now.

NA I lost 30% mpg. Supercharged only lost 20%. This was the result with a Whipple I had previously and my current Paxton. Boost gets more out of it. I also only gained 11 hp na.

we went from 9.99 with a 2.75 pulley, to a 9.37 with a large blower pulley with e85 only.

well, and swapping to blow through which let us pull the filter off, i would guess that good for .2 tenths.

e85 is the poo

depends on how much boost/power you want to run. Getting 12 mpg is ok with me if it avoids spending $10K+ on a new motor

It's available at the getgo in Wexford/Pine.

That's not bad...I'd still be afraid of running low or out of fuel though since I like to cruise a lot. I suppose I could keep a 5 gallon can in my trunk, but that'd be a pain in the ass.

Hopefully we see more E85 stations pop up around us. I wouldn't mind making the switch next year.

I think I'm going to just run a 3 gal cell in my spare tire well for the track.
