Last week we finished our testing and tuning for the 2012 Roush RS3 Mustang. We had a customer drop off his car with us for two weeks. In that time we were able to test several of our products and tuning that we are now offering to the public! We were able to squeeze 145 RWHP out of the car and make tremendous improvement in driveability, throttle response, and even fuel economy! The customer who brought the car in complained of it lacking some power, after we dynoed it we saw what he meant. On a hot and humid 90 degree day the car only netted 414 RWHP and showed to be very rich on Air fuel mixture. We were suprised the numbers were this low as we've heard of several other cars making 450-460 RWHP however we know the weather played a big part. This car also had a 1100 miles on it so it was fully broken in. After seeing these numbers the first thing we did was begin tuning the car. After an hour or so my father developed a custom for the car based on several other 2011 Roushcharged Mustangs we've done. The results ended up being 116 HP gain at the wheels from a tune alone! It also picked up 96 lb ft of torque and .5 psi boost. The car gained so much power because of how conservative and overfueled the Roush tune was. We brought the air fuel ratio up to 11.8-12.0 where as stock it dropped off the charts below 10:1!!

After my father was happy with his final tune for the car in stock form we installed our Modified factory air box which removes the walls inside the factory Roush air box lid. This can be seen below in my pictures. As well as a K&N panel filter, Ford Racing Cobra Jet twin 65mm bore throttle body, and a 82mm blower pulley and Gates 060810 belt. We also changed out the spark plugs for a set of the Ford racing 0 degree 5.0 4V plugs and gapped them to .030" of an inch. With these parts on the car we picked up another 2 psi of boost and saw peak power gains of 28 RWHP and 39 lb ft of torque. The power increase is from hit of the throttle on so just going from our tune to these parts is a nice seat of the pants feel. Ultimately the car netted 561 RWHP after all modifications were performed. One other thing we noticed from our Air box lid modification was the mass air voltage dropped down and is allowing us the range of about 580 RWHP on the stock sensor. With just our custom tune in the car we were maxing out the sensor at the very end of our dyno runs. We expected to see the meter peg with the addition of the extra boost and air flow but we noticed that the mass air voltage lowered down and we had a little more wiggle room if we wanted! This is because we increased the airflow volume of the lid by removing the walls. However we were sitting on max fuel pump duty cycle that we felt comfortable with so we didnt want to make any more power. We do not use boost a pumps here nor do we suggest them, so for right now, untill there is a true dual fuel pump system available this is were we feel safe leaving our customers. On a cold air day the car will make a little more horsepower, maybe 580 or so and we know it will be safe in those conditions.

This type of power in these cars literally makes them land rockets, blowing the tires off in the first four gears with ease. A little suspension and a sticky tire you have yourself a 10 sec street car. Roush put together one hell of a car and gave it all the potential parts to make some insane power. Check out my pictures below and information on our new parts and packages for all Roush 2011 5XR and 2012 RS3 Mustangs!!
