The GT, which uses a rowdier version of the outgoing 5.0-liter Coyote V8, now has 435 hp and 400 lb-ft of twist, up 15 hp and 10 lb-ft from its predecessor. The compression ratio is 11:1. Roll a base 2015 6MT Mustang GT fastback onto the scales and it'll show 3705 lbs. That's an 87-pound increase over the 2014. With the new automatic, the Mustang GT weighs 3729 pounds, a 54-lb increase.

I was hoping for a wee bit more than that but any added power is a good especially with the added weight.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the 5.0 tune is going to be on the soft side as compared to the 11-14 5.0. The improvements should have netted more power than that, which is good for everyone once you get a good tune on the car. I think if they would have wanted to they could have easily gotten 450/415 out of the motor, but that would cut into the difference between the GT and the GT350 when it comes out.

As far as the v6 losing power, it is probably just quoted lower in the RPM range to give more distance between it and the 2.3 EB. Nobody is going to notice a 5hp difference anyway.

I don't buy it. They may be the "official" numbers, but I think they'll prove to be underrated. All the v8 changes mirror the BOSS 302 engine. Which we a know was rated at 444 HP.

444, but wasnt the peak point 500 more rpm than the GT?

A question I have is will the new 5.0 rods hold more power than the 11-14's?

From everything I have seen, and heard, the rods should be similar to the Boss 302 pieces. If that is true, then this engine should handle 700rwhp pretty safely.

I am going to get mine, and make 750-800rwhp. We will see how long it lasts. My goal is to take the car into the 9's with only a poweradder, tune, and some minor suspension tweaks - on a DR.

That alone would be worth going the 15 and up instead of 11-14 for me.

Can't wait to see your build!

I will be making a thread.

Plans are, for now, to arrange the pick up from the dealer - and go straight to the strip from the dealership to get some baseline runs. I will be ripping it apart the following week, so I have to get a baseline in asap.

Mine will make 550rwhp and 500fp torque by next summer so it really doesn't matter what numbers Ford says it makes.
