Screw it man. Try it on E-85. I bet it's worth 75 hp:asshat:

not quite 75hp but worth the 30+hp you get from it if your car has cai and full exhaust. I run it on my cai only car and it makes QUITE a difference.

as far as the topic of the thread goes, I have been running a 93 tune from BBR on 91 off and on for over a year when my car isnt on the corn. it has run fine, BBR says it will run fine, and Lund also said the same thing. Im not sure of the elevation here but im in the Kansas City area. that being said I dont go out and beat the shit out of the car when im running that tune if its over 80 degrees out.

maybe you aren't paying attention, they(BBR + my tuner) are saying that there is no reason to run a 91 tune, Lund has also said something similiar. I was hoping to see some other tuners here to say what they thought of that. most of what has been posted in here really doesn't have anything in particular addressing what I mentioned, IE, the engine(ECU) is designed to pull timing and adjust for the octane you are running from the factory, therefore it can do the same with an after market tune, therefore, all the tuners are sending out the same tunes no matter the octane you run (apparently).

So i've been told, no there is no 91 tune, just put 91 gas in the car and it will run it just fine, so i can't get a different tune, unless i order from someone else, and who knows, maybe their 93 and 91 tunes are the same too.

so far i have RSKtakR saying running 91 has been fine for him on a 93 tune, and has also confirmed that BBR&Lund did indeed say that.

Why not just throw 87 in there then? If you want to play with fire then do it. Post up the results after a couple of months.

the stock map has lower timing as well, what part of that dont you understand? jesus christ you order a 93 octane tune run 93 octane! its not rocket science. wtf is with these out here that want to run 93 aggressive/race tunes on lower than 93 octane? do you like living on the edge? do you like gambling with your $8000 motor? then do it! dont come on the forums whining when your car eats a #8

I would run 93, but its not available around here, and when I call the tuner and request a 91 tune, I get told that running the 91 will be fine.. wtf do you think I do, order a 93 tune, and the stand at the gas pump that has 93 and say that I cant afford to put 93 in so I think I will just run 91?

^Why do those 2 offer different octane tunes if it doesn't matter to them? Just have one aggressive and one street tune.

It will probably be fine with 91 in there.

I still wouldn't do it. Why take unnecessary risks, even small ones? The car is worth to much money to justify that. My 2c..

New tune.

However with ALL of this being said, if you KNOW your running the 93 tune and putting 91 in there, take the car out in any kind of heat over 80 or 90 degrees and run the shit out of it.. your asking for problems. When its over 80 out I run the stock tune and E85 tunes.. if its under 80 out I run the BBR 93 tune and E85 tunes.. and no problems for 22k miles and over a year.

I don't have 93 octane here, only 91, and there are atleast 2 tuners that say to run their 93 tune with 91. I didn't order or ask for a 93 tune, I asked for 91, but thats what they sent me (according to the title of it)

So, are these tuners going to back up their statement with a warranty of your engind should you have a certain problem? Did you ask them that? Iquiring minds want to know...

Because of the VCT you're running lower dynamic compression at low rpms than at high rpms.

Pretty sure Lund has already told someone running 91 in a 93 tune was okay. I wouldn't do it, but lucky I have 93 everywhere.

Somebody mentioned torco? Anything wrong with adding a little of that for insurance?

Seems like I remember threads about orange spark plugs with the 4.6 3v and this stuff. Anyone try it w/a 5.0 yet?

well basically what happened is I ordered parts+tune from a friend who runs his own performance business. I told him i needed a 91 tune, he got a 93 tune from bbr, I told him i couldn't use it, no 93 here. He is SCT certified, and works primarily on mustangs. He said he'd get me a new tune, then a few days later he sent me a text saying BBR said it would be fine to run 91 on their 93 tune. I am at about 3200' elevation.

The tune that we sent is NOT an aggressive tune and it fine for your car. What Chris Jones did was tune it for 91 but titled it 93. We checked this morning. Your g2g buddy:beer:

Two octane points is nothing; like 87.0 versus 87.2. Now 2 octane NUMBERS are a helluva difference; i.e. 91 versus 93.

If the tune is made for 93...run 93 AKI (search that term). If it is 91 AKI, then get a tune for 91 AKI or add two gallons of panther piss (search those terms) and it will take a tank of 91 to at least 93.

Take me for instance...I might be 500 ft above sealevel at best. I run 93 all the time with my 93 tune. Don't know about the 5.0L 4V but the 4.6L 3V just explodes if you have detonation. When I race, just for added safety, I always add 2 gallons of panther piss to my tank just for extra insurance. That means I am running a 93 tune on gas that is 95+ AKI.

Don't bother with octane boosters. They are shit. Search "octane booster" and you'll find out what I mean.

If you don't have the U type electrode plugs (HT1 or HT0), you may be able to get away with running some Torco Unleaded Accelerator. That will take your 91 up a few octane numbers. Just be careful as some plugs will foul with the MMT (search that term) in Torco.

HTH

Mike

WTF is panther piss? lol.
