Without calling and bothering the nice folks at Blow By Racing, I was wondering if anyone new what they basically set the rev limiter for on a tune?

I have been reading up on what other people with similar set ups as mine shift at, and it seems as if I should be shifting at 6500, as opposed to the 6200 I have been.

It seems, as I have read, as if the butterflies start to close 500 rpm before the rev limiter. Is this correct?

Any-hoo, I didn't specify any certain rev limiter request when I ordered the tune. It is a stick, if that makes a difference. All other mods can be seen in my sig line.

Maybe John or someone else from BBR might have some insight.

My BBR tune came with the limiter set to 6500, I set it to 7000, and I shift at 6500-6600.
You can change this yourself of course.

Yes with an Xcal 2

It's been awhile since I loaded a tune, but I seem to remember it asking me if I want to make changes before it loads the tune. Is this where I would set the rev limiter?

With an Xcal 2?
Xcal 2 and 3 can do the same, I have an x3 though.
When it asks you to make changes you say yes and scroll through the items you can adjust.
If you want to shift at 6500 I suggest settting the limiter to 6900 or 7000.
Since the throttle body starts to close 400rpm before the set limit.

If you set the limit at 6500 rpm throttle starts to close at 6100rpm. etc..

yea when your car has the stock tune it does that. any "aftermarket" tune should take care of that.

You can't get rid of the ECU getting ready to hit the rev limiter, it's hardcoded. (it never bothers you if you set the limit far enough anway so it's not a big deal)
I've datalogged it, the butterfly closes 400rpm before the rev limit you set in the tune on every tune I have from 4 different vendors.

The throttle starts blinking closed at 5850 on the stock tune, this also reflects on the dyno sheet.

I would have to dig for my logs but they would look something like this with the pedal on the floor and a 6500 limit.
This is hard coded protection so it slams into the limiter a bit less harsh.

rpm: 5800 thrtl angle: 82
rpm: 5900 thrtl angle: 82
rpm: 6000 thrtl angle: 82
rpm: 6100 thrtl angle: 78
rpm: 6200 thrtl angle: 70
rpm: 6300 thrtl angle: 66
rpm: 6400 thrtl angle: 60
rpm: 6500 thrtl angle: 55 (set limit)

So, I just went and adjusted my rev limiter to 7100 (just to be sure), and you were correct, it was set at 6500.

Im very excited by this discovery. I was shifting the car at 6200 with the rev limiter set at 6500. So, starting at 6000 and up, the butterfly started closing on me. I can't imagine that being a positive thing for my ET.

Im coming out of the gate this year shifting at 6500 for sure. I can't wait to see if all of this helps my ET.

Here is a screenshot of a HPtuners log. Looks like its staying open to me. and hptuners always shows a max tp of 77%. i don't know, unless hptuners is missing something which is entirely possible cause they are missing a table for commanded lambda for timing and KR doesn't work with fords on it.

Max TP is 82% on everything I've seen. (SCT stuff)
