I'm running the Sport Comp-2s in 285/23-19. They are nice tires for the street. They did well in the rain we had here a while ago--nice & confident with no hint of hydroplaning in moderate to light rain.

I ran them for one autocross, then found budget to get proper tires for that kind of abuse. They didn't like being pushed that way at all. Possibly because of being squeezed on the rim--but the Bridgestone S-04's in the same size handled it ok. My outer tread blocks got chewed up pretty good; not quite chunking, but it looked like they were close to it. They were also a little sloppy feeling in transitions (again, likely the wheel vs tire sizing, and the S-04's weren't as bad). At the end of the day, 4 autocross runs had them looking like the S-04's looked after a day of open tracking.

So, basically, if you aren't going to abuse the crap out of them like I did, they are good.

I had these on my Miata and can echo the above. They didn't get chewed up like his did, but definitely not made for serious performance driving.

Per BFG, the measuring wheel width is 9.5". Min-max wheel width is 9"-11"
Your proposed 275-40-19 is a bit too wide for your 8.5" wide rims.

I have tried my Nitto-555 275-40-18's on both a 9" rim and also a 10" rim. The 10" width is ideal....and handles better. Same deal, measuring width is 9.5".....with a min-max of 9-11".

once i saw the actual width i started to rethink my choice. thanks for all the info guys

so what would be the better size to wrap the rims in 245\40 or 245\45.
