I just had a built 302 short block installed, however it wouldn't make power, my tuner said the cats were bad, I ordered some high flow cats to replace these. Now I'm wondering if I should have went with the off- road pipe. The reason I didn't is becauase of the extra noise. Will these high flows be okay or will they burn up also.

That depends:
Can you run an off road pipe in Illinois
Do you know why your existing cats failed? If you don't fix that problem chances are the new cats won't last either.

Where I live in Il. I can run it with the off road pipe. I was looking at Brenspeeds site and they offer Metallic cats that fit into the off road pipe that are suppose to with stand the heat of f/i. I don't know for sure why the cats failed , I don't think its un-common with f/i for it to happen, but I'm not sure, I was wondering how many have cats with higher hp with f/i. I'm planning on around 530-550 whp.

If your state doesn't require cats, why not stick with an off road x or h pipe and mufflers that suit your taste and completely eliminate the possibility of a cat failure.

Amen, brotha... amen. Way too many engines lost due to cat failure.

My American Racing high flows lasted less than 10,000 miles before being plugged. I had to replace them to pass emissions!

Agreed, I don't like the idea of running them. It's one less thing to worry about in my opinion. Even if I lived in a State that required them I'd probably switch my mid pipe for inspection.

buy another stock h-pipe and hollow it out. it's an easy 15-20lbs weight savings too =-)

I better Knock. No! make that pound on wood that my cats don't clog. Especially since my cats are ceramic substrate. I ran O/R before, but I was always worried about the smell when driving near cops.
