I always envied the crosswind gear on the Buff. The worst part of crosswind landings in my DC-8 was kicking it straight, from the crab, at the last second to land. The rudder would kick it straight but you only had a few seconds to get it on the ground, before the plane started to roll from the rudder change, as well as drift with the wind. It was always a balancing act to get it on the ground, without scrapping an engine pod.
Here is a video of UPS trying to land at Ontario, CA. during a strong crosswind. They really came close to balling it up.
