The firing order has been changed from that shared by all previous Modular V8s (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8) to (1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2)

Doesnt a specific firing order make power over another. couldn't you just swap the injector and spark plug wires around to change the order

the 13726548 order was a better order than the old 289 order.. it made more power and caused less vibration..

Don't forget about that big thing swinging the connecting rods and pistons around either.

True, but it was Reher-Morrisson that pioneered the 4/7 swap in the big block Chevy. It is also used in the small block chevy and is outlawed in certain IMCA (Street Stock/Hobby Stock) classes, due to the slight upper RPM advantage it offers. This change can be made by changing the camshaft with an off the shelf 4/7 swap cam. Ford did the same thing with its small blocks. The original 302 firing order was 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8, whereas the 302 HO is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8, or the same as the 351. Maybe the thought surrounding this is not so far fetched after all, since it has been done before.

What effect will the different firing order make?

The firing order CAN be changed in the PCM.....

Usually the cams are what dictate the firing, it would be likely that the crank journals have the same arrangement.

I imagine that the change may come form a few different perspectives,

1. allow a more balanced cylinder cooling
2. allow for better exhaust scavenging with the tri y header setup (allowing for a more cost effective header)
3. possibly more balance flow through the intake

Could be allow of the above

this is truly speculative of course

An even firing order just means the opposing cylinders share crankpins and they fire every 90 degrees for even/smooth operation. it has nothing to do with the cylinder numbering really.
