Not enough backspacing. Stock 8" wheel has that backspacing. Adding an inch & a half will only push the wheel/tire outside the fenderwell.

If 15x8 Racestar wheels with 5.50" backspace fits and a 15x10 with 7.50" fits why would a 15x9.275 with 6.5" not fit?

The 9.275 is also available with 7.5" backspace.

Depends on your version of "fits." They all "clear" the brakes but they also push the wheel out 1" further than the stock wheel. The ideal setup would be a 15x9 wheel with a 7.25" or 7.50" backspacing.
