trying to decide if i should buy Nitto NT555R 285/40ZR18 to replace my Continental DW Extreme contact 275/40r18

Nitto says will fit a 9.5 wide rim and my 2007 SVT GT500 rim's spec says 9.5

Helmet is purchased but need local mechanic to do inspection..cant wait until May 6th

The Continentals are Y rated so it will be good to 186mph as opposed to a Z rated tire which is rated for 149+mph, if that matters. I've never run a 1/2 mile event so I don't know how crucial launching traction is, but I don't think it's worth the hassle of switching to stickier tires if your current tires are decent enough.

Either way a 285 width tire will fit the GT500 wheels just fine. 285/40 is a OEM GT500 size, IIRC.

The '555R is a drag radial, isn't it?. Most land speed guys doing the Texas Mile are using more handling-oriented tires. I've heard of people using Hoosier A7 autocross tires even.

R7 is what most of the serious cars run, they hold the heat better. 555r will be more than ok for the speeds he's trying to hit but I think the Conti DW would be better as well.

Less than 48 hours, raining like a mother in the mountains. Got all my shit together and decided to tow it down there, just in case.

Can't wait, please stop raining. No refunds or rain date.

136 mph best so far. No more time slips broken technology. Might need 3.55 gears instead of 3.73 at the limit of 4th at the very end. Maybe a smaller pulley as well

Glad you had a good time and returned safe and with no breakage- what was your set up again - didn't you add a blower this winter to the car?

1/4 mile mph seems low for the power level. DA must have been super high with the bad weather and being in the mountains.
