Any advice on buying one? Went on the Bell website and measured my head at just under 23" which puts me in a medium. Seems a bit small to me. Does wearing glasses influence the size also?

I purchased mine at www.helmetcity.com

mearsured from the chart on there site and mine came out to a large helmet, i thought it was small but i ordered anyway and it was a perfect fit. Its one of those things you might just have to try to trust unless you have somewhere local you can get a helmet.

I've found Bell Mag 4's for about $150. Seems like a good price from a well known company. Bell also sizes their motorcycle helmets differently than their auto helmets.

At what point do you need a full face Vs an open face in drag racing? Is it the ET or MPH or just up to the driver? I my self would rather use an open face helmet,But I drive a slow car.LOL

GT350, Honestly I would go with a full face no matter what. You have to remember its not only you on the track. If you get hit hard or you hit the wall hard a full face isnt going to save your face from the impact. Theres alot of variables just keep that in mind.

Rob, I have a Simpson super bandit and a Bell, i like them both. The simpson was a gift from my wife for trapping over 140 in my old race car. The best thing to do when buying a helmet is go to a store and try several different ones on. Eventually you will find the one that you like.

Some info from Simpson's site,

1) Measurement
The circumference of the head should be measured approximately one inch above the eyebrows in front and a point in the back that results in the largest measurement. Use the sizing guide to determine size.
2) Try It On
Grasp the helmet by the chin strap with the front of the helmet facing you and the top down. Place thumbs on the inside surface and balance with the index fingers. Slip down over the head. If the helmnet slides down on the head with no resistance, it may be too large. Only if the helmet is impossible to to put on should you move up to the next size. The eyes should be approximately in the center of the eye port, with the top edge of the liner padding just above the eyebrows. If you will be wearing a headsock (recommended), try the helmet on with it.

From the Rule book,
10:7 Helmets and Goggles
As outlined under Class Regulations, drivers in all classes, including motorcycles, must wear a helmet meeting Snell or SFI Specifications. Snell K-98 is acceptable in place of any Snell M-rated helmet.

-SFI Spec 31.1A = Snell SA, open face helmet
-SFI Spec 31.2A = Snell SA, full face helmet
-SFI Spec 41.1A = Snell M, open face helmet
-SFI Spec 41.2A = Snell M, closed face helmet

Drivers of NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and ET cars (13.99 and quicker) must use a helmet meeting Snell K98, 2000,2005 or SFI 31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, 41.2A, or 41.1/2005 Specs. Drivers in supercharged, front engine, open-bodied cars and Funny Cars must wear a helmet meeting Snell SA2000, SA2005 or SFI 31.1A, 31.2A, or 31.1/2005 Specs. See Class Requirements.

Drivers of any open bodied car wearing an "open face" helmet must wear protective goggles. Modifications to helmet/visor/shield are prohibited. All helmets must have the appropriate ceritification sticker affixed inside the helmet.

Just came back from a speed shop in my area. He carries G Force and is expecting the SA 2010's next month. I'm a 4 eyes and that is probably where I'll get it to make sure I have a good fit. NHRA rules require full face 9.99 seconds and faster.

Thanks jewc75 , The info you listed is good info for everyone. I see what you mean, I'm not alone on the track and anything can happen.
Thanks.
