What cameras do you guys use? Im always amazed at some of the pictures you guys take. The detail and richness of the subject is amazing. Ive been talking to Ryan and he has given me some good advice. I just want to see what cameras yall are having good luck with and what would be the best fit for me, since i know nothing when it comes to cameras. I am looking for something affordable, takes great quality pictures, and is fairly easy to use. So post up your camera and one unedited pic so i can see what your are working with.

I shoot a Nikon D5100. I may upgrade to a D7000 soon.

It's gonna be hard to tell what camera is better by looking at people pictures. Truth be told, the camera doesn't matter as much as the lens. And the lens doesn't matter as much as the photographer. It's all in your own skills, composition, luck, timing, and post-processing. There are few, if any, professional photographes that do not post-process their pictures. I would say photography it 50% shooting and 50% post-processing. Some argue that it's even less shooting and more editing.

Good thoughts HellsBells, D5100 here too. I've barely used it and have a lot to learn. Unedited random pic..

I have a Canon T1i. If you go to YouTube and do a search on tutorials, there are a TON out there.

I recommend looking for a "hands on" class at your local community college. The best thing I ever did to learn how to use my camera and the different settings. I don't do car photography, I'm more into birds.....

Like what was said above. Your camera body isn't what is most important, it's the type of lens you have.

I use a Nikon D3000 with the 18-55mm lens and the 55-300mm lens.

I have to agree with the above....lens and skills. I am working on my skills.

Been shooting SLR/dSLR for about 20 years. I have a lot of old and new Nikon and Canon equipment. Feel free to PM.

Also, as has been stated, an expensive camera makes you a photographer as much as an expensive knife makes you a chef. Now, go read all of these:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposure_(photography)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aperture
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shutter_speed
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposure_value
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composition_(visual_arts)

If you buy a dSLR only to shoot on full auto, I'm going to track you down, take your camera, and call you girls' names.

What Rasmus said. I've only been shooting seriously for about a year but I am now totally comfortable with shooting in manual.

I recommend starting with Aperture Priority and getting a feel for what your f/stop does to your photos. Then start shooting in manual more until that's all you use.

If you get a D5100 or similar camera with no dedicated ISO button, I suggest you map the Fn key to adjust ISO (which Rasmus didn't link but surely just forgot).

ISO is simply how sensitive your sensor is (just like back in the film days). Low light with a higher iso will mean you can use quicker shutter speeds and smaller apertures.

Post-processing is also extremely important, perhaps moreso now with digital pictures. Everyone at some point thinks to themselves that they will just snap and publish but it just doesn't work that way. For example:

As a matter of fact, I have olny used it a few times and am thinking about selling it.

Wow Laura those are awesome! Right now I have the two lenses that came with the kit they are both the image stabilized lenses. 18-55 and the 250. Still getting a hand on the settings and am taking notes as I go. this is more for a fun thing as I don't have the time to make it a full on hobby but would love to shoot cars at some point provided I get better lol. I did take some really cool pictures when on the wedding and honeymoon that made me all about learning more. Here are the same photo one is the original and one I fudged with still so much to learn!

Same here. Bought it after Christmas. Came with 3 lens and carry bag.
Great camera. Has so much I'll never use. But it takes great shots. Close up of a pic I took last year.
