Anyone try these yet?

I'm curious as I expect I'll need a new set of rears by year end and M&Hs are notorious for running small. I had been thinking of the 275/45/18. But as I've seen a few 325/45/17s on 8" rims I wonder how the 325/40/18s would fit on a 8.5" if they too run more like a 275 that the 325s seem to from other posts on this and other sites.

Thanks for any real world experiences.

The new tires are very very sticky. They broke my friends half shaft on his 06 SRT10 Viper and they were aftermarket from Unitrax. (supposely good for 1000hp). The best part is they only need a little burn out to get them sticky.

LOL, doubt that rim, as they are 18" tires..... and as I understand it they just came out 6 weeks ago or so.

Thanks

Hopefully someone can chime in with some experience with these tires. I'm thinking about doing either the 275/45/18 or these 325/40/18.

I'm getting a little tired of changing my wheels all the time and want something I can just drive to the track and have still have a prayer on the way home if a FL shower decides to come.

I'm sure they hook well, I'm just wondering about the sizing, what size rear rims do you have?

Ping MikeVistaBlue06. I don't remember what size M&H he is running, his wheels are either 18X8 or 18X8.5

Someone might want to look in to the amount of VHT on the track and whether or not he could have possibly had an exiting failure waiting to happen. The M&Hs are good tires, but they aren't THAT sticky.

Thanks Doc - found it using search... :beerchug2:

I just bought a set of M&H Drag Radials 285-45R18's and also some extra Fanblades to mount them on. These tires are pretty close to my stock size (235-50R18) as well.

Mike

but they dont make a 285/45, guess he means 275/40/18 which they do

yup found it....

I have 4 "fanblades" with the BFG KDWs on the way. I also ordered 2 M&H Drag radials from Summit, and they are on the way. I got 275/45 R18s in this type of a tire.
Mike

So still looking for real world on the 325/40/18s

It was at Irwindale, we rented out the track for private test and tune. Also the reason we knew it was the tires was because of where the half shaft twisted and broke.

well the point Doc makes is that the prep has a lot to do with it, and its a very good point IMHO, if the prep is very good and the tire is good, big hookage ensues! Therefore its the combo that broke ur bud's 1/2 shafts.

john told me the newer tires coming out are made from a different compound and another little trick that makes them a better tire than they used to be before. i gained a whole 1/10th off my 60' with just a swap to new m/h's. not sure how long its been since the last time some of you tried m/h's but you might want to give these new ones a shot.

yes, I know what is suggested, but they run small, so i'm hoping the 325/40 might be ok on a 8.5, but I'm streatching

Why do you need a 325 on that 'vert? I'm betting you can hook it on the 275 just fine.

I would like to know this as well. I have some 18x9 FGT wheels that I want to mount a set of these on.

the M&H's no longer run as small as they used to. I just got a set of 325/40/18. MH recommends a 12" rim. I figured because they ran small theyd work on my 9.5. Boy was i wrong

MH about 8 months ago redesigned the tires to be closer to advertised sizes. my 275/40/18's had a tread path of 8" when i ordered them 1.5 years ago. they are now a 9.5" tread path. the new 325's have a tread path of 12". They wont fit on anything less than an 11" rim IMO

yea, the 275s are probably all I need.

Ron got a set of them last week and with the new sizing they were way too big for his 9.5" rim. He sold them and is ordering the 275s again.

I just got a set of the "new" 275/50/17's a few months ago. 1 inch wider, will still fit OK on the 8" rim but looks like they would work better on a 9" rim, which they recommend.
The small difference in the new size made a big difference in how the car launches. Have to find new suspension and tire pressure settings for optimum all over again. I will most likely try them on a 9" rim as well.

Also, I talked to John at M&H, he said the compound is the same as the old ones.
