Researched this topic and only came up with revolution auto, problem is they are about 15 hours away. Who in the mid/east south area can rebuild and strengthen an mt82 for under $1k (Might as well do a t56 swap if it's more)? 6th gear syncro is gone and the whole 6th gear assembly might need to be replaced as sometimes i have to put some muscle to get it into gear. Car also gives me issues to get into gear at wot.

I did plenty of research on this. If you are going to make 650+ all the mt-82 builders I spoke with said just go to the Magnum swap and be done.

Rev auto and Liberty gear do an upgrade but is $1800 if everything is perfect in stock transmission. Considering you need 6th synchro (same exact thing I had) I would do the magnum. You can find good used entire kits for around 4K.

I swapped mine out and love it.

You can pretty much go to any person who works on transmissions, rebuilding is easy for them, upgrading is just as easy for them. What goes into the transmission are not extra parts, just beefed up components that are already present. Send out your gears to a tranny specialist and have them face plated if you want. Then send away for the bronze shift pads and slider.

How told you these granny's were easy? They need 18k pound presses and all kinds of special tools. The tremec tranny's are the easy ones.

Well no one told me grannies were easy, I just figured they were so slow already they would be pretty easy to pick up at a care home?! They don't need all kind of special tools just 2 different jaw pullers to get by on. Also a simple press from harbor freight does it just fine, seen it performed already. About to take it upon myself to do it in my garage this summer after witnessing it!

1. Call JPC and order their Magnum swap kit.
2. Wait ~2 weeks.
3. Take car to JPC.
4. Wait 2 days.
5. Pick up car.
6. Winning.

7. Spending...easily $6000, including install and the gear swap out back...

I've seen new MT82s for about 2K and you can sturdify one for about the same. Not everyone wants or needs the same things.

I went with the JPC magnum swap (clutch, flywheel, tranny and DS) as I was still running stock clutch with 600 rwhp and didn't want to wait for it to go. Only issue with stock tranny was the whine. Went with 2:97 gearing but had ODs swapped to .74 and .50. My launch is much better with taller gears, whine is gone and gas mileage improved. I simply love it.

Beefing up the internals of the MT82 does nothing to correct the inherent flaws in the design of the transmission.

You can put a bandaid on a bleeding artery but it will only help for a short amount of time.

Is the warranty up? If not have Ford fix it.

Ugh. I just clicked over 70k miles on my 2012. It's just a matter of time now for me. Bone stock clutch/trans.

How much of a gas mileage improvement did you see?

I'm thinking about going for a Magnum XL myself. My MT82 works perfectly, but I figure it's only a matter of time...

**I know where there's a TR6060 swap from a new Shelby for about half of what the Magnum swap costs. Is there any significant advantage to the magnum over the TR6060?

Check with tremec. I think the magnum is a beefed up tr6060

Some of the comments I've seen about the 2015 Mustang indicate that they modified the manual transmission to be smoother and more durable. Assuming the 2015 is still using the MT82 (which I believe it is) and these are real improvements, maybe an update to a 2015 manual is the way to go?

No, the real solution is to drop a T56 Magnum in the car and then gears to get the final ratios closer to the MT82. I liked my T56 in the Bullitt but 1st gear was way too tall and I had two overdrives that I never used. My MT82 is geared so low that I can take a 25mph corner in 4th gear. Opposite ends of the spectrum.

But I knew that before I bought this car. I'll throw some band-aids on it but the first time it needs to come out it's getting replaced with a Tremec. Then I'll grab some 4.10 gears so I can fix the gear ratios.

Which ratios did you have in the Magnum XL?
