I thought about that after posting. But those were before my time so I didn't comment.

Found this on another forum. V6 totals are surprising. The stickshift ones are obviously all enthusiasts. I'd bet 80% of the automatic cars were rental cars.

The biggest shock is the number of automatic 5.0's and EB's sold. It's not even close. Does not bode well for the future of the stick shift.

2015
Total Produced (USA): 110,648
Total Manuals (All Engines): 21,797
Total Automatics (All Engines): 88,851

Total 5.0's: 43,862
Total Auto 5.0: 35,221
Total Manual 5.0: 8,641

Total Ecoboost: 39,264
Total Eco Auto: 31,529
Total Eco Manual: 7,735

Total V6: 27,522
Total V6 Auto: 22,100
Total V6 Manual: 5,422
So I guess the EB took away some from the V6 market share. No surprise there. Once Ford drops the V6 line I'm sure EB sales will be higher than V8 sales which proves my original point.

As for autos being more popular, they are hard to overlook when there are supercharged Coyotes with nothing else done (except for maybe a stall and exhaust) running 10s and getting 25+mpg. But I understand not everyone is a drag racer.

I don't know if I'd go quite that far in dissing the 4.0. It was definitely not a performance engine, but for just regular DD use, those things were bulletproof. My in-laws have an Exploder with that engine, am I'm pretty sure they don't maintain it well at all. But it keeps on trucking. Slowly.

The 4.0L was a truck engine and should have stayed in trucks. There is zero that was or ever will be performance about them. They were a solid engine. A workhorse for sure. But not worthy of the Mustang. The 4.2 version of the 3.8 would have been a better choice IMO. The 4.0L just never should have been slipped into a car.

I guess we will just have to disagree. Selling more of one trim does not make it a more cared about of two trims. A small group of people really care about SHO Taurus' (Tauri?) but Ford sold metric shit tons of regular Taurus's's's's's. Does that make them more cared about? Nope. They sold more regular versions because they were cheaper. Same thing will hold true with the 2.3EB and 5.0. The 23.EB will be more accessible because it will cost less. The does not mean the 2.3EB will be anything more than the V8. Cared about, sought after or otherwise.

I wasn't saying they're more cared about, just more of a necessary evil. If a brand can't make money off of a product line, it's going to get dropped.

Pretty sure Mustangs wouldn't exist if it wasn't for V6 and Ecoboost sales.

The Essex 3.8/4.2 V6 was being phased out with the last usage in the 07 Freestar, so it made sense economically to build the Mustang with a base engine that was shared with other product lines (Explorer + Ranger). The newer gen 3.5 V6 (later the 3.7) was coming for the 07 Edge and MKX, but it obviously wasn't ready to go for 05 model year.

cheers

This I can agree with 100%. :party52: The 2.3EB I don't see as an "evil". In fact, I think it preserves the Mustang's essence. You have two engine choices and both are performance oriented. Either way it is still a sports car.

I always kinda felt like the 4.0L was an odd choice. Almost like a "We ain't got nothing better to use so use this lump." kinda deal.

Younger kids/drivers have no idea what that 3rd pedal is for, and I was shocked about 5 years ago when I found out that schools aren't even teaching cursive writing anymore. At least teach people how to sign their name. Since the US doesn't "force" manual driving onto people like some other countries do, it is up to the parents to pass the knowledge on. However, it seems like not many do. Places such as South Africa, driving a stick shift is part of getting your license, and that isn't even the worst of the driving requirements (Can't "click" the handbrake, the car can't roll backwards while stopping/starting, points deducted for looking at shifter, etc.).

Plus you have "regular" automatics getting closer to reaching shift times to that of a Ferrari or Lamborghini. It is only a matter of time where even manual drivers may take an automatic just for the sake of shedding shift time. I'm one of those who would rather stick with a manual.

One of my friends had a 4.0 v6 and swears it was a great killer. Had mufflers taken off and intake, maybe tuned.
Said he could beat gt's every time.

I always tell him he thought to highly of that car

Sure about that? My NA Coyote gets between 13.x to 16.x MPG. Not even remotely close to 25+.

Left to right: right turn, left turn, brake.

And most people don't know that. At least around my area they don't.

And that last one (to the right) is actually wrong. The hand should be distinctly pointed down.

Yeah it threw me off a bit, I thought it should've been pointing down but it wasn't, really.
I learned those a long time ago, they were in my Learner's Permit when I was learning to drive, at 16 yrs old

I'm at 600+ rwhp and if I maintain a steady 65-70 mph I can get over 20 mpg.
Around town, 12.

Mine too. A little over 28 years ago. Where did the miles go?

Yeah that third pedal is called the millennial anti-theft device. Saw another meme where someone apparently stuck an iPhone into the tape deck on a car. :nono:

I meant 25 highway. Steady cruising in 6th gear I'm sure it can be done.
