Guys,

Pulling my heads tomorrow.
I know it's imperative to bolt them on in a sequence...
But is there a sequence for bolt removal?

Thanks!

As silly as it sounds I try to take them apart with a torque pattern. Have no idea if it makes a difference but I know it doesn't hurt.

Make sure you get the grounding strap on the drivers side head. It's located at the rear. I've left it on before and what happens is you don't notice it until the head is pulled and in your hands with an awkward balance with nowhere safe to put it down and get a wrench.

I'd also say to be prepared for all the trapped oil and coolant. The minute you break the head gasket seal it will rush out all over. A good strategy is to line the area with rags prior to pulling.

Good luck. Why are you pulling them?

Why are you pulling them?

Need heads for my iron block.

But, they're going to my brothers race motor shop, first.
Unshrouding valves
Larger valves
Heavier springs
Bronze guides
Chamber work
Decking
Flow bench

After all of that is done, ordering custom cams to work with the flow bench numbers.

I always started from the outside and worked in. Putting them on was center working outward.
