R Compound Tires+Stock 17x8's.....Anyone run this setup?

I have stock wheels laying around and they're pretty light....I mean, not super light....but wheel+tire probably weighs 28-30lbs.

That's with the stock tires on it.

If I were to go with a Hoosier R6 or a BFG R1 or something of the like...what size tire should I go with if my stockers were 215/60/17?
I was thinking a 245/40/17 ?

17x8's you run as high as 275 with Rcomp's and i'd say safely 255 with a street tire... Sam Strano ha sa bunch of different posts on this info too.. but I'm almost positive he ran SCCA with 275 r comps on stock rims ( 17x8 )

Sweet thanks, If I do this these wheels and tires won't see the street at all, they will be strictly track purpose!

I'm glad I can fit some meat on em though
Probably gonna go with a 255 now that I know I can go with a really wide r comp!

Hoosier sells new 245/45-17 Koni Challenge R comps in their discontinued tire section pretty cheap with free shipping. They will fit without any issues on the 17x8" wheels.

Yes! A friend at autocross has 275s on 17X8. It works for off-road use.
