I just went out to the garage and weighed my 7 spokes with P-Zero's. These are 20 x 9/10 with 275/35 front and 275/40 rear, 50% on both tires.

Fronts: ~60 pounds apiece
Rears: ~70 pounds apiece

The rears are also 28.6" in diameter, which has a substantial effect on the rolling inertia. It is much easier to spin a shorter tire (think of an ice scater doing a spin - they're slow with arms out and speed up by bringing them in).

If by way lighter you mean a couple of pounds, you are correct. I've got several sets of the 5 spokes and weighed one of the fronts without a tire - ~30 pounds. Tire Rack lists the P-Zero at 29 pounds. The 275/40 is 36 pounds. The 305/35 is only 32 pounds, but they want $532 / tire!

Any way you look at it you are going to pay a penalty for going with a bigger wheel, be it price or weight, and unless you can find a lightweight racing tire you start off at a huge disadvantage regardless of what wheel you choose.

my buddy bought his car with the saleen 20's on there; he prays for the day that he is able to put something else on his car lol

i much prefer the look of a 19" wheel on this car. it fills the fenderwell up properly & leaves enough sidewall for most needs. youd be surprised how many quality cornering-oriented 27" tall tires are on the market (of course youll be hard pressed to find drag radials in that size. thats why this is the corner carver sub-forum)

of course 18" is going to have more tire selection.

Wow! Handling issues aside, just think how much HP it takes to turn those things!
