Is their a ground wire on the drivers side, some where near the steering column? It would be more convenient to have it on the drivers side. Also, what kind of wire is needed for this?

I just soldered on 2 14 gauge wires I had at work. There was a grounding bolt already used on the passenger side. I put it where it was stock in all the other years. Fit perfect. if you use the ford one it doesn't get tripped when a knee hits the glove box. Just find some metal and you will be fine. I think theres some by where your right leg would rest. Just unbolt one of those bolts behind the plastic and attach the wire there. Any wire would be fine. 14 or16 gauge should be good. All its doing is grounding the wire, which pops the trunk.

So i have finally found what i think is the correct wire. I have installed the button with 12 awg wire. I didn't solder the wires to the button, I just twisted them together and taped them off. I cannot get the button to work. Can someone help me with this? The wire i am using is white with 2 think hot pink lines. I grounded the second wire to the grounding screw already used.

Mine didn't work at 1st either. I found the wire in 2 locations behind the passenger kick panel. So, start looking in the other group of wires.

Parking Light Negative Wire Location: Parking light switch or SJB, blue 52 pin plug, pin 31. The SJB (Smart Junction Box) is in the passenger kick panel.
Trunk/Hatch Pin Wire (-): White/Yellow
Trunk/Hatch Pin Wire Location: Truck Light or SJB, black 26 pin plug, pin 15. The SJB (Smart Junction Box) is in the passenger kick panel.
Hood Pin Wire (-): Purple/Orange
Hood Pin Wire Location: Hood Pin or SJB, black 52 pin plug, pin 15. The hood pin wire rests at ground and goes to an open circuit with the hood open. The SJB (Smart Junction Box) is in the passenger kick panel.
Trunk/Hatch Release Wire (-): White/Purple
Trunk/Hatch Release Wire Location: Passenger Kick Panel or SJB, black 52 pin plug, pin 13. The SJB (Smart Junction Box) is in the passenger kick panel. The trunk release motor wire is pink/orange (+) in the passenger kick, harness to rear.
Factory Alarm Arm Wire: Light Blue/Pink
Factory Alarm Arm Wire Location: Driver Kick Panel or SJB, black 26 pin plug, pin 18. The SJB (Smart Junction Box) is in the passenger kick panel.
Factory Alarm Disarm Wire (-): Light Blue/Black
Factory Alarm Disarm Wire Location: Driver Kick Panel or SJB, black 26 pin plug, pin 9. The SJB (Smart Junction Box) is in the passenger kick panel.
Factory Alarm Disarm but No Unlock Wire (-): N/A
Factory Alarm Disarm Wire Location: N/A
Horn Trigger Wire (-): Dark Blue
Horn Trigger Wire Location: Horn Switch or SJB, blue 52 pin plug, pin 39. The SJB (Smart Junction Box) is in the passenger kick panel.
Brake Wire (+): Light Green
Brake Wire Location: Brake Pedal Switch or SJB, gray 36 pin plug, pin 16. The SJB (Smart Junction Box) is in the passenger kick panel.
Emergency Parking Brake Wire (-): Red/Yellow

There is no power. All the switch does is ground the white/pink wire

Here's some preliminary pics of my install. Pics pretty much show which wire I tapped and where I grounded my other wire. I've decided to route the wiring into the armrest storage area and mount the e-brake access panel. I'll post pics of it once I'm done.

So i have a problem. I was installing my trunk button, and now i think i might have blown a fuse. My two door mounted subs aren't working. You can hardly hear anything coming form them. Everything else works fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Good find. Why the heck didn't Ford make a trunk release button for the S197?

Probably cuz it's easier to just use the button on the key fob...
