So went back to the drag strip twice in the passed month. Before this I had been a few times. The first two times i went with simple intake tune catback and some 285 555's. Ran a 13.9 at like 102 or 3 cant remember. This time going back im finally starting to learn how to properly launch my car. My mods now are full bolts ons. The only two im missing are a throttle body and Aluminum driveshaft. But also now I have crappy 255 potenzas. The first week I went this month I ran a 13.725 at 103.97. My best ET but not mph. I have 3.73s so right before the line I either had to shift into 4th or hit the rev limiter. So the second week I went I set my rev limiter to 6800. I Shifted around 6100 to 6200 then revved it out in third to finish around 6600-6700. I hit a 13.776 @ 106.42. Both of the 60 foots were around 2.133. Not great but i didnt expect much. Im in AZ so about 3k above sea level. Just kinda looking for opinions. Do you think i could do better with what im working with? What should i do to help my launch? One thing i know killing my launch is the fact that im lowered and do not have lcas or relocation brackets. Thanks in advance guys!

tires and lca w/brackets.
why are you shifting so early?
decent times, but you need tires.

I didnt know I should shift later. I figured shifting at 6500 all the time wouldnt be the best thing for wear and tear. Where do you shift at?

You answered your own question.

What about Rpms to launch at? Where do you shift at? Just looking for other opinions on how I did and any advice.

It's all in your 60'. Every tenth you gain in the 60' is 2/10 at the finish line. Pull a 1.6 in the 60 and you'll be running high 12's with no other power mods. You need traction before you can launch any harder. LCA's, relo brackets and tires will be the big 3 to start.

I launch at 5000 but im on drag radials. I shift at 6500. Ive got at least 50+ passes no problems. lcas and relocation brackets will do wonders. You will be able to launch hard with less wheel hop.

Shifting at 6700 has gotten me my best times, and launching at 4.5-5k.
You need sticky tires, #1 mod, and shifting at 6500-6800rpm works fine.
You're aiming to land in your max torque area on the NEXT shift that is the reason for the high rpm shifting.
This will make it easier to understand...

Seems like most shift around 65-6800 with a bolt on 3v...I'm normally around 6200 myself but seems like at each track visit I'm rusty again so have to relearn to drive lol...good start though. PRACTICE!! PRACTICE!! PRACTICE!! Plus what they mentioned above also helps greatly...

Ask skwerl about his track times a couple years ago...

Brian, are you calling me out? Yeah, when I first started drag racing I was running mid 13's and that was with the Roush M90 (at 5 lbs). Pulling up some random time slips in 9/11 I was running 13.3-13.4 with 2.0-2.1 sixty foot.
Two weeks later with a 1.86-1.87 sixty foot I ran 12.7.

Agreed about the 60-foot times and Tires, LCAs, Relos. That 106 trap speed isn't to hateful at that altitude.

Doin better than me! First track day this year I mustered a 14.0 @ 102. That was also with a 2.5 60ft, a trash tune, and 7k DA lol. Even with a rear suspension setup you need tire. I roasted my 295 NT555's dumping at 3k. Slicks will be your friend, hoping to run mid to high 12's with slicks.

DA has been great and we are not at 3000 altitude. Wildhorse is ~1200-1250 ft elevation.

Keep working on launch and get some decent tires. My 5.0 went 12.2@114 with nothing but a few basics and tires at wildhorse last month. Should be quicker now.

Just assumed 3000 cause my home town anthem is about at that. It really drops off that much going an hour south? Wow haha that's weird to think about

Yes. Shifting at 6800 then shifting at say 6600 2nd to 3rd seems to generate another 1/2 MPH.
