Was in the box with my pistons, rods, rings, & bearings. Machine shop said it is a bearing they replaced…doesn’t look like a bearing to me.

Yep... That's a thrust bearing for the rear of the crank. The block side bearing doesn't have a wrap around lip but the crank cap does... So that little piece goes in there to make the lip a full circle.

@ hollowdwelller you should ask yourself..or better your engine shop. where is the second part oft he thrust bearing ? Hope they not did replace only on part of the Thrust bearing.
This bearing is critical...for the fore/aft movement of the crank !!

That is the thrust bearing. Not part of the thrust bearing.

The other half of the thrust bearing is a part of the bearing itself. One side of the #5 main bearing set has the "lips" and the other side does not... So they put that "C" piece in to complete the thrust bearing circle on the back of the block.

They only way to eliminate that separate thrust piece is to buy a bearing set that doesn't use it and only use half of the # 5 bearing set. For example... The King Bearing MB5281SI is the normal set... Use everything but the #5 bearing and it's separate thrust bearing piece... Then also buy a King Bearing MB5219SI but only use the #5 bearing from this kit (unfortunately it's the only way to get that #5 piece with the integrated thrust surface... the rest in that kit are spares). I did this on my most recent build and it works perfectly and eliminates that separate piece.

If memory serves.. The only reason you can't just use a MB5219SI was due to the width of the rest of the bearings.... I think the MB5281SI is a touch wider for the #1 - #4 mains.
