I started to change out the UCA and ran into a wierd problem with the two chassis bolts on the forward mount plate. They were tight and did not turn in the conventional way to loosten up. They just made a loud popping noise, kind of like a nut turning inside a nutplate. I could not see or acess whatever it is that the bolt screws into.

Anyone have any idea what is going on with it?

Same thing happened to me. Took it to my mechanic friend at the Ford dealer and he removed them using an impact wrench with no problems.

Did he reuse the bolts and add loctite, and did you change out the bushing on the pumpkin or use the stock one?

He used the factory bolts and torqued them to specs. I'm not sure what you mean by the pumpkin bushing but my UCA pictured below came with the Polyurethane/Delrin bushings and the pinion snubber.

That would be the bushing on the differential. I think most people leave the stock one on the car.
