For those that have not soldered, it could be a pita. I have been soldering since 1968, so it's no big issue. Before quick connects, and wire wrapping, everything in the telco world was soldered. After doing 10's of thousands of solder connections, I do it wam bam done. We used solder in 5 lb rolls at work. At home I have several 1 lb rolls, all in different diameters for everything from bigger connections..down to real fine work, like on pcb boards, that use fine traces, and a lot of times an illuminated magnifying glass is used.

The N2MB method is nothing new, it's just the tried and proven western union splice ( good mech joint), then soldered ( good electrical connection)..then heat shrink the entire mess. Done right, using correct gauge wire, and good insulation, it's bullet proof..it will last 50 years.
