Hi all, I’ve got a 2005 mustang gt and it runs very hot. I can feel the hot air coming out of the handbrake when I drive. I’ve had this car for a couple years now and nothing has changed. It has an S&B cold air intake installed. My coolant temp is normal, but my intake air temp is above the normal range. I cleaned and reoiled my intake filter which made it run cold but for only a couple days. It also stays hot for a long time after it has been parked and shut off. Any similar experiences or insight? Thanks!

You still have catalytic converters? How many miles?

Have a muffler shop check the back pressure and/or after a long drive at night just look under the car... if there getting clogged they might start to glow, but I don't think this is an issue since you just passed emission.

When you can put it up on a lift and inspect the underside... especially where the shifter (manual trans) or shifter cable (auto) and E-brake cable goes into the car...

Okay, I’ll do that, thank you! Also going to do a coolant flush in the next couple days as my coolant does look to be a little low. Doubt that’ll help but can’t hurt. Thanks again!

Do a pressure check of the coolant system and at the same time just take a look at the passenger foot well for any dampness... I don't think its your heater core, but coolant system is sealed so any significant loss in level means leakage or if you use 100% water a dissipation...

Verify your radiator fan is going into HIGH mode. If not, the connection point on the under side of the Fuse box harness plug under the hood is melting or a relay for high speed is dead. Then remove the radiator fan and spray water through the rad going in the opposite direction of airflow. You will be amazed how much dirt comes out of your rad fins after 20+ years.

How do you know its running "very Hot"? If coolant temp is normal than its not running hot. IAT's can be high because you are sucking in hot air from the engine bay. What tune is on the car? What kind of emissions test did you pass? Visual or smog test?

Well it's not really running hot if coolant temps are normal. What are your IATs at? Are you running a supercharger or turbo? What is your "normal" range for the inlet temps?

I thought you said the coolant temps were normal?
