I have some weird reddish-brown stuff on my tires and cant seem to get it off.

I've tried scrubbing it with medium/firm nylon brush and old rag with simple green industrial degreaser, car soap, dish soap with no luck.

Any recommendations from you experts would be appreciated.

Thanks

ArmorAll used to do that to tires when I used it as a kid.

What tire dressing are you using?

It's actually part of the tire compound which is separating out. As tires go through heat cycles (as well as age) the compounds added to the rubber will migrate out of the tire. This is why older tires won't have the grip of a new tire.

How old are those tires? If over 5 years old I would replace them not for looks but for safety. To answer your question though if they are newer and just discolored bleach white works very well to clean them then apply a decent tire dressing.

Thanks for the responses. I got the tires new in Aug 2011. I have had 2 track days with them as well as daily driving. I don't use any tire dressing really. Just a quick wipe with armor-all after a wash.

So if it is part of the tire can it be removed?

You may have bought them in 2011 but they may have sat in the warehouse for two or three years. Check the date stamp.

And ditch the Armor-all

x2

I've heard from some detailing that applying armor all is like licking your lips when they're chapped. Its a temporary fix, but makes them worse off when it does wear off.

I had this issue after each road course track day before I got the tire pressures correct. Now it's minimal.

more than likely its the armor all rather than break down of the tire given the date he said. so yeah, bleach white or like skwerl said, a stiff brush and some simple green works too.

I use Meguiars tire foam on mine, always keeps them looking fresh.
