4.10s are the better performer gear... And gas mileage and drivability is pretty good on them as well. I would recommend those over 4.10s

In the autos the 4.10s may suck but I have a manual and there really isn't a big difference in mileage to me. Honestly if your worried about mileage you should go for a hybrid. But hey, even the new v-6 knocks of 31 mpg on the hwy.

but the 05 autos came with 3.31 gears. Not sure they came standard with a T-lok though.

Look at the tag on the housing. It will tell you what gears came in it. 3.31's were in most but 3.55's were an option from 05-09. Regardless if it was an auto or manual.

Unless something changed in the S197's, All V-8 mustangs since 83 came with a limited slip

05 auto came with 3:31 and an open rear

I think you're wrong about the open diff part.

You're confusing it with the V6...V6's came with 7.5" open diffs. All GTs have t-lok.

I don't think limited-slip was std untill 2007, I know it was std in 2008. and 3:55 was only opt with manual trans, Could be wrong it is hard to remember

Yes, all GTs came with a LSD. In 2005-2006 manual transmission cars came standard with 3.55s. In 2007+ 3.31s became standard on all cars with 3.55s optional. I believe the automatics have always come with 3.31s standard since 2005.

All V8 Mustangs since 1985 were built with Traction-Lok differentials. 2005-2010 GT Automatics all came from the factory with 3.31 gears and a Traction-Lok diff - all of them. The factory did not offer any optional gears for the automatics.

I replaced the 3.31's in my '07 GT Automatic with 4.10's when the car was only 2 weeks old. Awesome gears for the automatics. Fuel economy in town improved slightly, while fuel economy on the highway barely dropped.

Stall converters kill fuel economy around town in these cars, but highway mileage doesn't suffer (if you get a full lock-up converter). Converters offer huge gains in drivability and acceleration, though.

Get 4.10's - you will not regret it!

4.10s and no less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have 4.10s in my auto GT and love them. wouldnt consider anyhting else unless I was maybe thinking power adder down the road. My mileage is better in town, little les on the highway but on road trips, i still get around 21-23MPG averaging 19MPG mixed now

Like Brian said, all autos have 3.31s from the factory. If your sole purpose is street duty and/or drag racing I would recommend 4.10s.(3.73s if you drive a lot of hwy/interstate or plan to roadrace/autocross) Gas mileage will be same/slightly improved around town and it will decrease 1-2 mpg on the interstate but it will accelerate so much harder. The autos and 3.31s are dogs, you will absolutely love the 4.10s(or even the 3.73s). One of the "best bang for your buck" mods for sure.

Doesn't know what gears do but wants to change them.

My advice to do some reading/learning, and save the decision for a later date.

Changing gears is a trade off, it's not like going one way is all good and the other all bad.
