275/40-18 or 275/35-18, Brand ?

I have the stock bullitt 18x8.5 Wheel on my car currently. I am going to stick with it for awhile seeing they only weight 26.5 which isn't that bad consider anything lighter going cost me at least 300 per wheel.

On my last s197 I ran the Nitto 555 255/50-17. I then switch to Kumho MX 245/45-17 due to the time there was a shortage of Nitto.

Nitto 27.09in Height 10.43in width
Kumho 26.01in Height 10.2in width

I liked the Kumho better seem to me the rubber was little harder and I like the add boost from the shorter tire really made different. I was a little disappointed with how long the Nitto lasted and I was hoping that the Kumho was going to last little longer but my dad totaled that s197. I am not saying he Nitto didn't hold up ok I did drive the shit out that car.

As far as 275/40-18 vs 275/35-18 lets compare the nitto 555.
275/40-18 Height 26.61in Width 10.91in
275/35-18 Height 25.59in Width 10.71in

I am really leaning towards the 275/35-18 but I am worried that with the 18in rim its going to make NVH go up more compare to what did on the 17in rim on my previous S197. Do you guys think this will have big affect?

I am leaning towards the S drive at the moment in because of the weight savings. After a google search it seems that the Falken FK452 out performers both the Nitto 555 and Yokohama S drive. The Yokohama seems be bit of a closer race. I read that the Falken have problems with swollen side walls.

they barely bulge.

i have the htrz3's on my stock 17's, and for how narrow they are in the stock size they perform admirably...was going to put them on the gt500 wheels, but realized that though the stock goodyears on the gt500 rims lasted longer than anything else i put back there so far, the ones on the front are almost done too...wtf...the fronts usually last much longer than the rears for me...but the sumi's are a great tire, esp for the price...and btw, the best price i found the sumi's was at american muscle for 143 iirc, and that is with FREE shipping....tire rack is 139, but i have to pay shipping and tax...damn warehouse in shreveport...

Thanks for input. I know the 275-40 been done but anyone done 275-35? I am just wondering if shorter wall will make a difference on getting back to the 8.5in rim.

I went with 275-40 since the tire guy said they would wear a lot better then the 275-35. I also ended up getting the falken 452 due them being the only ones I could get before my road trip. They seem do a good job compared stock. I used to spin for a sec when power shifting to 2nd now I just get a nice little chirp. I let you guys know how they wear and do in the rain. Road Noise seem be little loader but not to bad. I figured mostly due to having all that extra rubber. I wouldn't think twice about getting 275-40 on a 8.5 rim they fit great. Ill post pics after I get chance to clean my car.

i have 275/40/18 in front and 285/40/18 rear. i would go with the 35s, if i could do it again. i thought the extra sidewall would make a lil difference in ride quality, first set were 245/40/18 (stretched look and made the car lower). i would say go 35s.

he just didnt want to mount them 35 series tires

anybody got a pic of a 275/35-18 on a 18" bullitt wheel? i want the 275/35 but i don't know if it is gonna be enough sidewall on them...

I would go with a 275/40/18. The 35 sidewall will be to thin. The 40 sidewall should fill the fender perfectly with those BMR lowering springs. I ran a 295/45/18 with my steeda sports spring before and they fit perfect.

thats what i was worried about... i found some 285/35 nitto's that aren't much shorter than a 275/40... like 2 tenths, i think i'm gonna order though's... i hope i can fit a 285/35 on a 8.5" wide wheel?

You can fit the 285 but it will be pushing it.

i have 275's on my 17x8 rim NO issues for over a year, including launches and track.

275s work great with the stock 17x8 bullitts. Alot of guys use that combo especially for drag wheels

sumotomos 275/40R18s on polished bullitts here. fit perfectly, could probably go to a 285, but itd be overkill.

i like overkill! lol... oredered the 285/35 yesterday and they should be here Thursday...

I have seen 285/40/18 on the stock wheels and it look great and barley any bulge. I think it looked bad ass.
