298....tr6060.....67mm@15 psi.....in progress!

So as i posted before, the oil pump came apart on my 551rwhp forged motor......rod bearings took a hit along with the cams and heads.

Today was the first day i got to work on it besides the initial tear down to diagnose the oil pump failure.

So this will be my "build thread" to show the progress!

My current set up:
67mm Billet Precision Turbo
C&L intake manifold
BBK 62 MM TB
Steeda Aluminum driveshaft
4x12x32 front mount intercooler

The plans:
298 livernois stroker
Melling oil pump w/ Billet gears
VCT lockouts and delete
tr6060
Mcleod Twin disk clutch
MGW Shifter
moroso 7qt oil pan
stock heads with comp cam springs
bbr stage 2 cams
BMR K-member
Custom hot side for the turbo
Snow alcohol fogger kit-single nozzle

Above the norm:
finish my wire tuck i started (pass. side is done, driver side still needs to be finished)
100% make over under the hood with new paint
filling in all the holes under the hood
smoothing out the body work under the hood
re-wire all my aftermarket sensors and vacuum lines under the hood

Todays progress:

pretty much removed everything! cleaned with a small brush and sponge. next i will start filling in the holes with my welder and smoothing out the bodywork. i even removed all the power steering for now, i have a torn boot that needs to be replaced and want to run my power steering resevoir to a new location.

Motor gets dropped off tomorrow. Next week im taking my heads in to get inspected, cleaned, decked and new springs intalled. Im planning for this to take the next 2-3 months on this!!

That sounds like it's going to be sick. Good luck on the build and keep the updates coming

My suggestions and comments so far.

If you go with Livernois, get the Pro stuff for that turbo that comes with Diamond 2618, no mahle 4032 for that application. (really, do it)

I have pictures of how your luck will look like if you go to high on the knob.

20psi on pump with meth and 4032 pistons with an undetermined kit where you don't know the pressure balance is a recipe for a disaster.

to be honest i would probably not be in the 20psi range, my goal is 650rwhp. i doubt it will take that much to get there.

my plan for the new hot side is to fab some headers that point forward instead of back wards. saw a set on a s197 not too long ago with full a/c and power steering.it was tight but looked sooo much nicer with just the little bit of piping.

did your last engine have the TSS oil pump gears and SVT pump? if so do you know why it failed?

just debating in my build if i should go with lockouts and a melling setup or the TSS setup, i want around 500rwhp

Thanks.

+1 on the diamond pistons. While I am sure Mahle makes a lot of good products, I did not have a good experience with them.

Here are the diamond pistons I have now, really high quality pieces for sure:

Ran custom Diamonds in My Pontiac. 13.5 to 1 428 on Nitrous and never blew a piston. Stick with a winner and leave the guessing for someone else.

Sounds like a good build....Somewhat similar to mine except Im gonna use a different longblock combo.

Goodluck with the build, hopefully everything holds strong for you.
