I don't think the apartment complex covers anything i brought that up to them and they said they had nothing to cover, no liabilities, nothing.
Cars just don't catch on fire sitting in a parking lot off.
Looks like your only recourse is going to be to take it to Ford, and hope that they make it right. Car fires like that are not uncommon at all. They are almost always electrical in nature, and it is usually a defective electrical component that is the cause. You need to A) keep on the fire department to find the cause of the fire. They may not be able to isolate the exact component that was bad, but they can determine that the car caught on fire by itself. B) Contact the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). They investigate all vehicle defects and issue recalls. You can file a case online at nhtsa.gov. Don't just file the case online though. Find a phone number and call them...every day if you have to. C) Contact Ford. Start with your dealership and work your way up. Document EVERYTHING! Don't be threatening (at first). Ask for help. Also, talk to as many ford techs as you can to see if there are any known problems. If being nice gets you nowhere (likely), then get serious. Tell them that you are following up with the fire department, that you have filed a claim with the NHTSA, that you are aware of other similar incidents with these vehicles, and are trying to contact the owners in pursuit of a class action lawsuit. D) If you need to, lawyer up. You will probably need to make this a full time job...calling and writing letters every day. As one of the first ones to have this happen, its going to be extremely difficult. Hopefully Ford will find the problem, issue a recall, and take care of their customers.

+1 on this. Ford absolutely does not need to know you don't have insurance. You need to tell them this is in no way yours or your insurance company's fault, and there's no way, on God's green earth, that you or insurance should be paying for this. They will try and deny it, but you will tell them you will find a lawyer whose had experience in dealing with total loss fires due to manufacturer defects. Bring a list of all recalls associated with spontaneous engine fires on Ford vehicles (there are a few). Especially focus on any other stories with the newer Mustang's. Explain that this may very well be the beginning of a recall and that this is a great opportunity for Ford to show they are trying to be proactive in protecting the lives and property of their customers.When/ if you talk to ford i dont think id mention not having insurance. Not that it would prob make a difference but id say that def wouldnt help.
No offense to the op at all but if he didnt have auto ins i doubt he had renters insurance.
Thank you for the helpful reply, unlike many others just focusing on my fucking insurance. This thread was about the 5.0 catching and just going up on flames, not about my insurance. If this is an issue that us 5.0 owners actually will have to fear, then i think it would be wise if we all just keep the insurance comments in our asses and focus on the real problem. That way when i found out what really went down i can come back on this thread and let you guys know so it wont happen to you in the near future.
The other person who I've heard of with the problem couldn't get ford or her insurance to pay for it so she had to get a lawyer and she had to stop posting updates on the thread. Might as well save yourself some time and get a lawyer now. Also it's best if your Lawyer talks to everyone involved, don't even call ford yourself. you don't want to say something stupid to ruin your case.
