What a fast turnaround! Shaftmasters called me and the shaft is definately bent. They are going to re-tube it and send it back. All I have to pay for is the material which was $98 IIRC. These guys are super friendly and have great customer service. Really glad I went with this shaft... Not sure why some guys knock them on this board as they really seem to stand behind their product!

So onto why it happened. The shaft must have hit the tunnel hard on the 1-2 shift. My car is lowered with Eibach pro kit spring(1.5") and I dont have an adj. UCA.

Im going to order an adj. UCA and reinstall the shaft in the spring when I take the car out of storage. Pinion angle will be correct and I'll also take a hammer to the spot where it hit the tunnel so hopefully I wont have anymore issues.

Good to hear everything went smoothly. I'll keep them in mind when I order mine in the spring.

Me too! I was afraid it wasn't going to be fixable. After having this problem and Shaftmasters being so easy to deal with I would only recommend them. Im sure there are other nice shafts out there, but customer service goes a long way in my book.

Ive been thinking some more on why I bent this shaft and just thought of the bump stops that I cut about 1.5" off awhile back. IMO, there is no way this shaft would have rubbed if I left the bump stops alone, but with the Eibach's the stops were about 1/4" away from the frame and I got sick of hitting them over every bump...

I cut mine when I was running the QA-1 Rear Coilovers....might have to replace those.

Coil overs or stops? Im not replacing the stops. Having the rear end shimmy and bottom out over every bump is very annoying!

I think with some love taps to the tunnel from a BFH and an UCA Ill be golden.

The stops.......I no longer have the coilovers in the rear....I put k-springs in. Im gonna keep the k-springs and just go with an adjustable shock for the rears.

Believe me, I wasn't knocking them! When you are dealing with race parts and race power, parts fail. Happens to everyones parts at one time or another. I was trying to comment that I heard customer service is top notch. For them to fix it for you like that is awesome! Wish all manufacturers would stand behind their product like that. To many of them want to say "race abuse" for parts and void warranties. Shaftmasters should be considered A-1 in everyones books. Thanks for posting the good experience Jeff!

Bringing back an old thread after seeing that I'm not the only one to bend a Shaftmasters 3.5" aluminum driveshaft. Mine was installed in my '14 GT automatic last fall. Stock suspension, but the car runs 11's in the 1/4 mile and consistently pulls sixty foots in the 1.62-1.69 range, so it's launching hard on drag radials. It just bent recently so the factory 2-pc is going back in next week so that I can send it back to Shaftmaster for repair. Really bummed that mine bent as it shouldn't have hit anything with the 100% stock suspension.

That shaft is supposed to be rated for 750 rwhp. DSS ( Driveshaft shop) rates their's for 900 rwhp. The DSS uses a (replaceable) CV joint at the axle end...so pinion angle is not critical.

Originally I bought a shaftmaster's for my 2010 auto. Folks were having all sorts of vibration issues with the shaftmaster's shaft...esp with auto's..and 2010 auto's. Pinion angle is very critical. So I never installed it..sold it to a local buddy with a 08-manual and stock suspension. He has had zero problems with his 300 rwhp. I installed the DSS-DS.... but have never used DR's on the rear with my 390 rwhp.

I'm amazed that a 3.5" aluminum DS, with it's thin wall tubing can even handle the shock loading you get with heated sticky tires. The DSS-DS 3.5" DS is a bit heavier than the shaftmaster's version.

I believe both use 6061-T6 al alloy. 6061-T6 is strong, but not that strong. It's only 40 ksi yield strength and will flex 3 times as much as steel, with the same wall thickness.

When you get the repaired shaft back, and if it happens again.... I'd seriously consider another brand of DS.

I'll definitely get mine repaired and give it another try. I'm only making about 400 rwhp (estimate) and running high 11's in the 1/4 mile, so my car shouldn't even be close to the limits Shaftmaster claims. However, I do have a 5,000 rpm stall converter, so the STR (static torque ratio) when I launch is likely very high. That's the only event that I can even remotely think of that would be enough drama to bend this shaft.

How are you doing high 11s with a 400rwhp car?
Are you on full slicks?

We ran 11.60's all day long in the heat, with 398rwhp. Full weight.

Nothing more than full bolt-ons, tune, converter and 3.73 gear. Stock wheels with a MT Drag Radial out back.

With a 5 krpm stall converter, that's probably what's doing it. Toss in the 4.10 rear end gears and DR's...and it may just be a matter of eventual metal fatigue in the DS. 1st gear on the 2014 auto is something like 4.XX End result is bucket loads of rwtq.

I run M&H Racemaster Drag Radials and they dead hook with a proper burnout.

I've run a best of 11.78, and have run a whole lotta 11.80's. Haven't dyno'd this car yet, but the only power mods are tuning and O/R H-pipe - that should put me around 400 rwhp.

I had an '07 Mustang GT automatic that went just as fast and it dyno'd just 393 rwhp with a big converter and 4.10 gears. So, with the right drivetrain, you don't need big power to run 11's.
