New Roush TVS pushing 550 hp on 4.6L?

So, Roush has released a S/C kit that puts out 550hp to the flywheel on the 4.6L 3V engine. There has always been the argument that going over 500 flywheel hp is not safe with stock internals on the 4.6L. But, it looks like Roush is saying with this new kit that it might be ok to push well over 500 flywheel hp all the way up to 550. Everyone has a different opinion on what the stock bottom end on the 4.6L will handle. So, what are your thoughts on this new S/C kit from Roush?

Not tech, the thread will be moved and you will be scolded for not reading the rules before posting.

But moving past that, the biggest limitation is the connecting rods. Crank and pistons can handle it. Fuel pump can be bumped up with the wiring upgrade and a BAP. Injectors will be upgraded. The biggest risk is the speed at which the pistons change direction. RPM will need to be limited to protect the rods.

I ran my stock motor at over 500hp for about 3 months before dropping in the JDM 302E stroker motor and although it was fine, I still felt like it was more than I wanted to push through the stock motor for any extended period of time. I was always smelling new oil smells and worried about blowing it.

I figure I'm at about 580 (485 rwhp through an automatic) at the motor without even worrying. The Ford Racing Whipple HO kit is 550 hp.

For those who got on here just to tell me that I posted in the wrong place I ask you "Do the letters FO mean anything to you?" If you look in the column on the left you will see this was my 1st post. My bad. I'm still learning how to use the site.

haha... good grief.

How many miles on the car? I'd install the kit as supplied and just run it.

I already have the M90 with the 2.49" pulley. My question was is Roush saying that it is safe for all 4.6L 3V motors to put out 550hp without any other supporting mods? If so, then I won't worry as much when I have mine tuned at the local shop in the next couple months. I have emailed Roush to ask them these questions, but they have not gotten back with me yet.

Since you already have the M90 have you considered the VMP TVS1900? That is the setup I had on my Bullitt. You can swap out the head units in an hour and have all the power you want with a pulley swap (and supporting mods).

Leave the M90, buy some 127350 cams, and a get a full exhaust, and a fuel pump voltage booster. Done.

I had the M90, now have TVS 1.9. Car is no faster with 8.5 psi/82mm pulley.

YMMV!

I'm not wanting to upgrade to another S/C. With the mods I currently have and once I get the car tuned I should be somewhere around 550hp at the flywheel.

With a safe tune and the M90, especially in Alabama, the car will run forever. You need a good intercooling solution so you have power at least some of the time, ie: the revan racing exchanger and the 2013 GT500 ic pump, at a minimum. I have evaluated more economical solutions in a cooler climate with less than completely favorable results.

I already have the cams and exhaust. Do you think it is worth it to buy a BAP? Or just upgrade to the Ford Racing fuel pump?

I'd do the boost a pump. Cheaper, same exact result. I thought I'd try a walbro 405, since they were about the same money as a voltage booster and there are less parts to break - uses all stock everything else. With a 10 ga wiring mod and maybe 500 crank horsepower I'm at 88% duty cycle - basically maxed out - and I want to go down 10mm in pulley size so I will be buying parts again.

First, telling stkjock to "FO" is cute, better have said worse to him. He takes internet bullying very seriously. This is only because he has an itchy "BAN HAMMER" finger. You'd do well to be humble and accept flamed guidance for what it is. Kicking around a dead subject isn't terrible if you can accept that some people are going to crucify you for it. But in particular, it's in your benefit not to sass the mods.

Second, regarding the dead subject, there are many topics that have been discussed in great length and detail. The forum search function is your best friend on this forum. Absolute crap tons of specs, data, and builds can be found by using the search function. Teach yourself how to use it, it will come in handy more often than not.

Last, don't believe half of what your read on the internet. Believe even half of that when interpreting what a Vendor advertises. The debate on how much power a stock 3v motor will endure is critically based on tune, fuel, type of power adder, and its purpose (drag, drift, corners, or street). Whether or not it is safe is always debatable. The ability to make the power, is usually without question. Just because you have a M90 with a 2.49 pulley does not make you "safe" for stock internal durability.

I suggest you start with this thread and search from there: http://www.s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29199&highlight=stock+motor

702GT, thanks for the advice. It was the cartoon of the man beating the dead horse that got me. I understand that this question has been asked numerous times. But, when a highly respected aftermarket mustang producer such as Roush releases a new product that states this is what's "safe" it begs me to raise the topic again and lay it out on the table for discussion. I also understand that my set up is different from the kit they have released. But, it caused me to question what I and many other mustang enthusiasts have contemplated for years and that is what is "safe"? And I like many others before me may not stop until that question is answered with one final "POP" lol
