Oh no is really easy. Its just a little metal clip that needs to be pulled out of the plastic coupler at either end. it can be done with a small screwdriver or pick. It will be pretty easy with the engine out.

If you put a JPC steel braided line (good upgrade BTW) on the only thing to worry about is where the line connects to the master cylinder on the firewall, be careful when popping the clip that you don't lose it. Try to pry it out with a long screwdriver in one hand and a telescoping magnet in the other hand to keep in contact with the clip.

Good tip. Also, don't put the clip on until the line is fully seated. Seating the line will send the clip flying even if it's only part way on.

Sounds like someone with experience. They should have designed that line with a similar clip like the pcv system has where the clip can't be lost.

Finally

It's finally out and the car is jacked back up to working height. I started removing the old slave and getting ready to install the new one.

Okay notes for future clutch installers.

when you have the jack under your trans and you have clocked it and slid it out as far as possible your next step is to set your jack under the center of your K-Member and apply minimal pressure without raising it.

Your next step will be to remove the 4 bolts on the front of the K-member (the legs)

Note: you do not have to take out the other 4 the trans only needs to move about a half inch really one it's clocked to slide out.

Although the above is the only way I found I was able to get it out after hours of tugging, pulling and a Sh*t load of denial.

I am going to take a brake then finish switching the slave and install the new clutch and flywheel then take tomorrow to put it back together.

Crap

Major issue to anyone that can help just noticed ford manual says to, NOTE: Always install new pressure plate bolts and on the AM instruction which I disregarded because the trans and engine was already out in their instruction so it was no help until now.

List of of needed Parts:

  • Ford Racing Metric Clutch Bolt and Dowel Kit
  • New Flywheel (which I have so that's not a worry)
This $13 Item will beyond piss me off if I truly need it because no dealership has it and a aftermarket company wont be able to get it until tue or wed.

I spoke with my local performance shop and they said they reuse them and just use lock tight with no problems so I have some hope.

My note: I love American Muscle but they are Fuck*ng retarded for not adding this to every clutch kit they sell or add least having it as an option to add if the buyer chooses to do so.

Ahhhh....another tranny/clutch job. Brings tears to me eye's fur sure.

I'm thinking you are the same Anthony from another forum who took his tranny out about 10+ times adjusting adjustable slaves. You must have it down to a science.

yep...Anthony is the resident pro and doesn't need a jack to man up on this tranny job but I bet he along with I would love to have a shop out back with hyrdaulic car lift in our next house. Anthonys tips on my first clutch job in almost 25 yrs most defiantly help me.

It wasn't 10 times, but between my car, my son's car and some side jobs I've had some of these trannys out. We had a few of those adjustable slaves, 2 McLeods and 1 Ram. I like the McLeod better. I don't have it anymore because of the RST which doesn't over power the stock slave like heavier pressure plates do. The best thing I ever did was the dead blow hammer in the front of the tunnel. You just wack the fucker all around the area where the bell housing goes and shoot some spray paint on all the scratches the bell housing caused by removing the transmission. popping the cherry on the first tranny job that hammer does more than just help with bell housing removal, also helps release a little fustration, lol

Shifter87,
This is man's work...give the bitches their equal rights and stick them under one of these cars, yeah right!

Under statement for sure.

I'd pay a dollar to see any female do this on their own ander neath one of these cars. I did it at 47 yrs old a few yrs back, in my garage, in the winter just to see if I still had the right stuff, grit, and guns to complete it. Got'er done but will say it was different now since I can't see shit up close now. I finally came to terms to go to the drug store and get me some reading glasses, lol.

Now since I have a tech that can do it for $200 and see how easily its done on a car lift within 2hrs, well, I pay the $200 for now on.

Yeah that little clip wont secure on the plastic elbow, is there a trick Kind of BS two bolts and a slip hold this slave on and a piece of metal that weighs less than an ounce is giving me a hard time.

At first I thought the new slave didn;t measure exactly the same as stock but they do. I unbolted the new slave and put the plastic elbow on and the retaining clip and it held. Put it back in the trans and put the clip in and it pops right off Whyyyyy :wtf1:.

Under than that stock clutch and pressure plate are out and I will be reusing the stock bolts with loc-tite, I just need to un-fuck this slave issue and take out the stock flywheel.

Going on a run now hopefully I will have some life saving input when I get back.

That clip has been th discussion of many cltuch threads the past 5 plus yrs. Don't let that littel basterd get the best of you. You will notice the line once attached has a little movement. You just have to find th correct postion seat where the clip pops/snaps on. In regard to p/p bolts, loctite is a known work around for this and many other shop jobs vice buying new bolts. Some torque to yield bolts it's best to replce after torque'd twice.

BTW...Every man needs a challenge every once in a while and what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger...or something like that I was once told by my Navy Master Chief, and a couple of Gunny Sarge's when I was gettin my ass kicked.

Lol oww the pressure.... Are you refering to the slave connection inside the bellousing or the hydralic line connection on the outside? If its the connection on the inside mine seemed like it was loose whenever I put it in but it has stayed so far. The metal clip on the outside should actually go through the coupler.

The outside, the retaining pin that holds the elbow to the slave adaptor. In the ford instructions it says get a new one just like the bolts but one big fucking problem no one carries it so I am reusing this one I could probably find a retaining pin this size at Lowes but not going that far yet I am going to keep trying.

Yeah I tested the pin after I read that to make sure it help with the slave in my hand and it help find couldn't pull the elbow off but with the slave in (not bolted but in) I tried again and it was easy to pull off which is the current problem.

Hear are some pics of the stock cluth/pressure plate and the stock and new slave the stock one was done. I also had my wife snap a shot of me under the car siting up in the trans tunnel taking out the last clutch bolt, I though it was kind of funny how much room I have with the car skyjacked if you will.

Thanks for the kind words 1fastpony

You can install the line with the clip fully inserted. Sometimes you have to push the line extra hard to get it to seat in deep enough for the clip to do it's work. On the flywheel bolts, re-use them and torque them 5 ft lbs lower than spec with red loctite.

The two on the bellhousing that don't do anything but get in the way.

I will have to line it up with the bell housing metal gasket thing that came on to see which ones are not used.

Stuck

Looks like a lot of smoke on them parts.

Yeah things are really dirty.

How the hell does this flywheel come off the block these ford instructions don't mention a flywheel in the drivetrain or engine pages. I removed the six bolts expecting to take the flywheel off and get to the pilot bearing to replace it and then at least get the clutch and flywheel on tonight but I am stuck again not my day.

Either way I will have the new clutch and flywheel on tonight ready for the trans tomorrow since I should have done it yesterday.

Your are still working on the car on New Years eve. Man put the wrenches down and go have a cold one or a drink. The fly wheel should just pop off with a little effort.
