Check the sway bar and make sure it's tight. I had mine come loose and made a clunking sound when turning. Drove me nuts until I found it. And then re-check some of the other obvious stuff as well.
FB is upwards of 5k installed for the 4r70w depending on what options you order. Call Dan, see if he has my old one still there, he may be looking to get rid of it. It snapped the input shaft in the torque converter. Not sure if there is anything else wrong with it. It was just rebuilt by...
Agreed, they just put the 4r70w in my 05. That's after two rebuilds and a ton of headaches with the 5r.
Ps. I also use Dan for tuning and other stuff. What you described is exactly what was going on with mine just before the input shaft snapped in two.
05 Roush sport 05-1690. Livernois 298 stroker, FRRP ported heads, Comp stage 2 blower grind cams, Vortech HO kit, FB performance trans, a ton of suspension mods. Don't have a shot of the engine bay with the new set-up in it.
I am using FB's 10" full race single disc converter. I only lock it up for cruising. In OD with lock-up on it cruises really nice and I notice very little difference from the old set-up. About 2300 rpm at 75 mph or so. I'm running 3.73's in the rear. But this is only when highway crusing. And...
Tbird you're gonna love it. I went with the optional gears for mine and it's a totally different car. I wish I would have done this in the first place.
Dave, PM me and I'll give you my cell #. I had my 5R55 redone twice with supposedly bullet proof stuff, capable of handling well into the 800hp range. Alas, second time it snapped the input shaft and that was on the street mildly getting on the car. I just had the FB transmission put in. And...
Good luck with the swap. I just had FB install mine swapping out the 5R55 after blowing two of them up....you'll love it. Had the car out this past weekend for a bit and the transmission is awesome. Very well street mannered and when you get on it it really responds.
I also only have one...
I just got mine finished by FB after the 5R went for the second time. They used a Hurst pistol grip shifter and I went with the option on the trans brake and the lock-up. The trans brake is on the top of handle of the shifter and is a momentary switch in first gear, in third it is the over drive...
Thanks Rick, you guy build a very stout motor to say the least. And again I appreciate all your help getting it together with me.
gzmo - Thank You - total project ran a little over $14k. But keep in mind I had the tranny rebuilt, put in new moser axels and detroit locker, large vortech...
drag pac, I have only been at Island twice so not sure if we know each other.
Thanks Dave, once I got the tires straightened out I was able to pull several passes in the 10's. Just took a little bit to get her dialed in and find the right tire pressure and do a long enough burn out to get...
