The stock exhaust and the tune with the 02s on were added for emissions. Once it passed I put the full 3" off road and tune back the way it was. About a week later I added the coils and then it got ugly. That granatelli exhaust is a pain. I thought I had a leak but it was probably already hurt.
Honestly at this point I think it was the gas too. But this didnt happen all at once it was over a couple is weeks. My thought originally was that the proper spark needed more fuel and I didn't know it. I had just swapped the exhaust for emissions within the last month too and I thought I just...
The Saleen crate motor was delivered directly to JDM. They put the motor in the car using the coils off of the old motor which had the 07 coils. That was 4 years ago. My friend that had the car built hardly ever drove the car. When I bought the car from my friend I ordered plugs from JDM and...
I'm not sure. That would be a question for Jim. They locked the tuner after the car was tuned.
I do know the tune pulled timing at a certain air intake temp.
No the motor has about 4500 miles on it. The first 1000 were break in miles. Pistons 2, 7 and 8 are hurt but no holes.
I think I probably got 87 when I paid for 93.
The car ran with the other coils. They were not bad, they were just too short. The car was not tuned with the proper spark. The only variables were the gas and the change to the correct length coils. I guess I bought a $5k tank of gas.
The plugs were gapped to .030.
Timing at WOT was 14.
I had BP and then Sunoco gas in the car over the last month. I think it was the BP that was in it when it got hurt.
From what my guy could see in the scope he said 4 pistons are flaking on the edges.
No indication the car had a blown head...
The plugs were the correct heat range and I put them back in after checking them. I checked the gap before I put them back in the car.
This motor never had HTOs in it. But it did have the old style coils until I swapped them for the correct ones. That's when all of this started.
The timing...
Yeah I know they are the same but the boots are 3/8" longer. I'm wondering if having the correct length coils changed the burn and the car should have been retuned. Again I'll never known for sure.
They just put the old style coils back on the car and didnt change the boots. The coils or the gas are the only variables.
It wasn't all at once it was over a week or 2 that I noticed it didn't sound right. Then it started to stall after a cold start and putting it in drive.
The pistons are...
