For those that have the red inserts and red seats from the factory, how close of a color match is the red on the Coverlays? I want to keep the red but want to make sure it will be a close color to the original.
Finally got the door panels done. Added red stiched shift and parking brake boots to go along with the red trim. Sorry about the blur...will replace it.
I went with coverlay and my passenger side for perfect. Driver side was a pita to install to make it look “good”. No one has noticed where it doesn’t sit perfect in the front piece where the switches mount. Still worth the money and better than my peeling factory inserts that had already been fixed by a shop once.
Maybe this is some sort of initiation hazing Ford does for it's Mustang owners, but this stinks. I've taken the leather off each side and started the wire brush work to remove the glue, but looking at the edge of the "glue panel" in the picture below, should I start ripping down the glue panel off at the edge or just wire brush and sand down the sticky panel? I plan on getting Coverlay or the Amazon knock off (link):
On my list too, but it looks like it is not only glue. Is it leather with thin foam on the back which decomposed and therefore
the sagging?
If true, if you don't remove all the foam particles, no glue will stick for long.
You have to get all the foam material off. You will not be able to remove the factory glue, nor is it necessary. I found that sharp wood chisels work the best at removing that junk. My replacements are three years old now and still looking good.
New update. I went ahead and swapped the door panels for the 2014s. Did my own installation since I didn't like anything I found on the net. Zero new screw holes in the panel. Also put some black piping around it as well.
