The car belongs to my girl's dad. He has owned the car since 1966 and was his daily driver for a while. So much so, it has 136,000 miles on the clock. That last time the car was registered was 1971 and since has been parked in a garage under a tarp, a platform built around it and then was walled in with storage boxes. This would have been a true barn find to a stranger. Since the car has been stored so long not having the time to restore it, he reluctantly gave it up with the agreement he can drive it when he visits.

As of now, the plan is to just bring it back to life. All the pieces of the car are there and the car was modified since like most of us he was a car guy and modified it with things that were cool in his era.

When I did more into I will know more what needs to be done besides the obvious, brake lines, hoses and all that...

Very nice Bruce. What made him park it to begin with?

Aside from bringing it back to life, are there any future plans brewing upstairs? It looks pretty complete for the most part. Any engine pics?

I'll snap some more tomorrow. Had to get some other stuff done today.

As of now we have two options. Clean it up, get it running safe and talk about the life of the car.

Or we pull the body off, paint the frame, drop it 2" and throw some 17's on it. But until I get under to see how much rust is there I have no clue.

Wow, i bet there are a few corvette guys that would pay a lot of money for that thing if there is little to no rust.

Incredibile its been sitting since 1971. Looks like it was protected though, instead of what you usually see which is a car that has been sitting out in some field for 30 years and is a rust bucket.

Good luck on the project. Looks like a very nice piece to start with. Even the top looks good.

Bad news first, the damn passenger side hood release line snapped. Driver side released and now the passenger side is stuck. I am going to have to deal with it another day.

Good news is right now, we have decided we will only minor things to get it running. Clean it up some, enjoy the car until we have more time to invest in making it pretty.

Under the car was still solid. The frame only has surface rust but nothing and the only thing that was rusted through was the exhaust. Everything else looked normal and solid.

The car was hard to push around yesterday and there was no way I was going to continue to push the car with a locked up brake.

So today I decided to at least get the internals of the drums all removed so that I can move the car freely while I wait for the new parts. The new parts we will start with are some front disc brakes and rear break rebuild kit. The brake lines that are on the car now are still solid and not rusted out, but it's cheap insurance to just replace them while we are at it. So we will have an entire new braking system when done.

During the same time I am going to go ahead and pull the motor and trans. Look everything over and repair all the gaskets. With the amount of build up of grease and grime, I can see the engine has leaks, and he said there was a head gasket leak when he parked the car. So no sense in chasing things down when I can just get it back 100% from the start.

I found humor and irony in this first picture...
