I quite cigs after 25 years fives years ago, and never felt better about it.
I can finally breath again and my wife wanted to have night sex again because I don't smell like an ash tray anymore. :thumb: ...

I do enjoy a nice Cigar and brandy every once in a while.
Pipe tabacco remids me of my Departed Grand father.
I think he smoked Captain Black..

Ixtlan,
I too enjoy a good pipe smoke. My father has smoked a pipe as long as I remember, and that's probably how I picked it up.He smoked alot of Amphora and Borkum Riff. I prefer the Mac Baran cherry ambrosia myself. A fine smoking tobacco. I got a few pipes from Thompson Cigars. They have some interesting one's on occaission. You are correct that it is an art. It is a very relaxing ritual though and well worth learning. i just don't see enough pipe smokers around here anymore.Maybe it has an old man type stigma surrounding it? I'm 37 and I look forward to my pipes. Not a daily thing, but I consider it a treat at the end of a hard day.:thumb: I also love cigars preferably Dominicans, which I believe are usually better than Nicarauguans.IMO.
Cheers!
Mike

And this statement from a Californian no less.
The land where EVERYTHING causes cancer....

People are so brainwashed nowadays that they think the sun causes cancer, so they rub all these foreign chemicals into their skin and wonder why they get skin cancer, all the while forgetting about the mass of microwave (not the food cooker) radiation permeating their bodies during every second of everyday. DUHHH

I smoke about a pack a day of cigs (bad, I know, but it's a habit and i'm trying to quit as is).
I smoke cigars whenever possible. Used to smoke 1-2 a week, now it's down to 1-2 a month.
I smoke hookah, too, when I can. That's more of a social thing, though.

And I smoke quite a bit of buddha lol. Myabe 2-3 times a week.

Thought I would throw a few updates in here.
First the Utah Law on Internet tabaki sales.
I wrote my Senators (Federal) with my concerns.
Was very surprised when I got a call from one of the aides concerning this.
They sent the law down to their Legal Department and the response was that the law was indeed unconstitutional in their view. However it cannot be declared that until someone takes it through the court system.
Many have in other states and they have always won. So precedence is already set in our favor.
The senators office also passed it on to the BATF.
That can be good or bad.

Anyone here a Connaisseur of tobacco?
I recently returned to my pipes and dumped the cigarettes.
Been an off and on pipe smoker for 20 yrs.
Cigarettes for 27. But no more.
Thought it might be an interesting subject for a good diversion.
It is an art to smoke a pipe.

I decided to try a pipe recently. I'm getting conflicting advice, some say not to inhale and others say you do. I did and it kicked my ass.

Anyone tried one of the countless versions of these?

Unfortunately, it will only be a matter of time before our stupid government bans those e-cigarettes. They will link it to some addicting substance for children.

It is sort of a learning curve with a pipe from cigs.
You dont inhale like a cig in that you inhale deep.
With a pipe it is more like you fill your mouth with the smoke and then inhale a smaller amount when you inhale thru your nose.
Remember pipe smoking is more of a taste and smell experience.
Also you need to experiment on the types of tobaccos you smoke and find you like.
The range of types is very wide.
Generally they fall into Aromatics, and blends of tobacco only.
Aromatics being the more flavored and blends being just straight tobaccos blended for a certain taste.
Aromatics are dirtier than normal blends but are are more pleasant for those around you. And are the flavor type ones.
Normal blends are more like cigars and cigarettes.
But pipe tobaccos do not have the garbage chemicals that cigarettes do.
Processing is not the same whatsoever and you get a better quality of tobacco.
Stay away from drugstore brands because they add a humidor chemical to increase the shelf-life.
You can smell it the second you sniff the product.
It smells like a cleaning chemical.
The majority of smoke shop brands have it too.
Stick with some of the ones mentioned in the thread.
My fav is Blue Note from CAO Dan (Torben Dansk) but it aint cheap.
Lane 1Q is a good one too. 1Q is Capt Black Gold without the humidor junk.
If you want a high nicotine content go for a Latkava blend like McBaren Syrian Blend (not an aromatic and smells more like a cigar to others).

I have tried the electronic cigs and they are a waste of money IMO.
It isn't the same and I know of nobody that they worked for.
The gum chewers just get addicted to the gum from what I have seen.
And the patchers just get dizzy and spend a lot of money on them. Some have quit but most I have seen just start up smoking in the end.
(I myself enjoy smoking and don't want to quit, and the big trick is wanting to quit)

Pipe smoking is very different than cigarettes.
It is catching on too.
But you still get the looks from others thinking your smoking that not legal stuff.
Screw those uptight people, they are always looking for ways to stare their nose at others anyway and aint worth the air they occupy.

Thanks for the input :beerchug2:

That may be my problem - I bought a small pack of Cherry Captain Black because I wasn't ready to commit to a large tin of any particular flavor. Although I thought the unburned tobacco smelled nice at first, s couple days later it really wasn't to appealing. I've been tempted to spark another bowl to see if it tastes the way it now smells.

I would comb the phone book for a real smoke shop.
Tinderbox has a fair collection of tins and brands.
There are few real tobacco shops, and most are cigarette/bong shops.
Generally a waste of time.
I cant help you out since I dont know where you are.
I am not a big cherry fan although once and awhile they are good for a change.
My favorites are:
Blue Note (Dan)
1Q (Lane)
Cube (MacBaren) this one is really acrid though and not an everyday smoke.
Vanilla Creme (MacBaren)

I have many others but those are my top choices in order.
All are aromatics too.

If you want to learn about the types MacBaren has a great site:

Big ass state shaped like Texas
Only thing I've tried out of a pipe is.... well, illegal in my state to say the least. lol. I do have two e-cigs and I enjoyed them until the vaporizer broke ($40 part), but I got them when they first came out almost two years ago so I guess they lasted longer than I expected. Now I'm back to regular cigs every now and again, but the fact that I bike a lot more now makes me smoke a lot less. I was at about 3 packs a week, now I'm at about a pack every 10-14 days. I graduate this semester, and told myself I'm going to quit by the time I got my Bachelor's, so I'm hoping to keep that promise to myself. Also, I have like 3 packs left of the pre-ban clove cigarettes I've been waiting to ignite! lol. Now instead of chain smoking and inhaling 20-30 cigarettes a night, I'll buy myself a nice $8-$15 cigar and do that for the night. I've finally made the upgrade from cigs and beer to cigars and Gentleman's Jack. :thumb:

Read, all at once, this thread, seen that Utah passed ord. against sales.
So, do you have a fav. online retailer?
Right before SCRIPS passed, I bought a big box of rolling tobacco
(RYO for years), and it is getting down in quantity.
Might try a pipe...

Utah did pass an ordinance and the Feds did too.
What it entails is the Post office cant ship tobacco products (Feds).
But UPS can and FedEx.
And a Face to Face for cigarette sales and RYO (Utah).
So far pipe and cigar are exempt.
We have a couple local shops here that are good but they are small business and local only.
Most are more head shops that sell cigarettes.

This is how I earn my living, We make flavored little cigars, cigs, ryo, and just now getting in to snus.

My wife quite smoking by using the e-cigs, she's a big fan of them, I still smoke, but it's hard as hell to quit when you make them and get them for free. (one pack a day just in case the meanies are reading this lol)
