Thanks Caleb! Everyone is out of the 305-40-18's, was looking at the 305-45-18's but was worried about the additional 1/2 height.

I think the 305/45/18's look too tall, even if they will fit. If you have an adjustable UCA, LCAs, and panhard, you might be able to center everything so they don't rub, or you may get lucky and they may not rub without doing anything. I had 295/45/18's and they would rub, but my LCAs are adjusted a little aft to get a good pinion angle.

I would wait on the 305/40's. I think the 305/45 and the 295/45 look too tall. Maybe that's because I had that size on the rear of my old Lightning, so in my mind they are a "truck tire". Actually, the 305/45/18 is 1.2" taller than a 305/40/18, and width is the same.

With lowering springs I agree Brady, But with the CJ springs(which are maybe 1/4"-1/2"drop) that Greg has, the 45 height will fit fine.

I run a 45 up front 40 rear now and I'm considering the 45 out back next time now that i have cj springs, help lower my effecting gearing as well and have more surface area on the pavement from the overall bigger diameter tire when you lower the psi for the track.

If I switched to the 45 height and with 410 gears what would the make my "gearing"?

effective gearing comes to 3.95.

The basic formula is current tire height divided by new tire height, times gear ratio.

So

27.25 / 28.25 X 4.10 = 3.95

I have been running the 305/45/18's on my car for the past six months or so on 18x10 FR500's and even with the adjustable panhard they still rub a little on both side of the car. My car is on Sportlines so it sits fairly low but even if it were a little higher it would still rub due to the width of the tires and the offset of these wheels. When I replace these it will be with something slightly narrower but the same height to go along with my 4.30's. I think with your 4.10's you would be much happier with the 295 or 305/40/18.

The actual height of the 305/45/18 is much closer to 29", it something like 28.80.

Thats doesn't make any sense, if you mean they just rub on the outside fender, thats becasue of your ride height with sportlines.
305/40/18 are actualy slightly wider than 305/45/18. But the shorter tire may help since your lowered so much. Or you can swap some stock heigh springs out back and you would have no issues either.

305/45/18 are 12.05" wide and 305/40/18 are 12.13" wide.

From my experience the 305/40/18 555r which I have now on 18x10 GT4 rims (which is the same offset as the fr500, unless your running the wrong (99-04) offset on your car) Nitto say they are 27.7" tall but on my car with 30psi for street driving they measure 27.25" tall with a tape measure. The 305/45 are advertised at 28.78" tall but under load with the correct pressure theya re gonna measure less. Im just speculated here but im fairly certain as my next set of dr will most likely be the 305/45's.
And as a general rule of thumb nitto sizes run slightly smaller in width/height compares to the same size specs of a different brand.

I am just telling from my own experience what you will see if you run the 305/45/18's, and I can tell you they are not going to measure less than the 27.8 I mentioned in my previous post, or at least the set I have does not. I am running the correct offset, but the tire is wider than the wheel and causes it to rub, not enough to cut the tires or to cause visable damage to the fender but they definately rub on both sides of the car. Also for you the taller tire may be a good thing with the turbo but Greg does not need to reduce gearing with the Centri if he wants to go fast at the track. I actually bought them to reduce gearing (4.30's) on the street and intend to run a slightly shorter slick at the track.

Think you ment 28.8.

Take a tape measure to your tire, you may be suprised at what you find. Greg measured his current 305/40 555r's at 27 1/4" tall and mine also measured 27.2" tall, yet nitto says they are 27.7". The whole reason i discoverd this is I used nitto's spec for my rev per mile to correrct my speedo and it was off 3-4 mph at highway speeds. so I actualy measured the height of the tire on the car and found its 1/2 shorter than advertised so I took that measuremment and calculated the revolution per mile to fix my speedo.

The reason its rubbing its becasue your lowered.

These are just Gregs street tires.

For the track he has run 26" tall nitto nt05R drag radials and Jay's 27" tall slicks. And im pretty sure he's in the market for some fat and skinnies.
